Got a response and he said that he has many customers who use his paint systems to paint guitars with good results so I guess I will give them a try.

I just shot him a message, hopefully this works out. If so, they have a ton of paint options. I'll post what he says and and update for future reference.

I wear a respirator when I paint anything. Maybe I'll just give it a shot, test everything (neon and 2k) on scrap wood first.

Would doing the neon and, say, 2k for clear work better? I've heard some horror stories about 2k so I was trying to shy away from it. My main reason for nitro is I've used it and it's pretty easy.

They don't have nitro and I'm not interested in figuring out how to mix my own paints. Maybe the latex paint would work but I don't know enough about paint compatibility. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well, I finally got it fixed and wanted to post the results here so anyone searching in the future might get some answers. I put a new wiring harness in with 250k pots and an orange drop on the tone knob and it's like a night a day difference. The guitar sounds great now, the high end is clear...
