Ok idea, or very bad idea?

According to Warmoth's website they use polyurethane, and occasionally use polyester as a base coat.  I would recommend applying 2 - 3 coats of wax free shellac prior to shooting any lacquer, just to insure you don't have any compatibility issues. You didn't state what wood the neck is, but if...

What kind of strings do you prefer?

Maybe I didn't explain it well enough. Regardless of the intonation compared to the other strings, wouldn't one think that the harmonic at the 12th fret be very close or identical in pitch (except an octave higher) to the unfretted string?  I've had this experience with multiple sets of DR...

    Stripping paint

If you're going to do a solid color, I wouldn't bother stripping the old finish.  If it was my guitar, I'd simply repair any dings, rough up & level the finish with 320 grit sandpaper, and start painting.  Leaving the old finish in place will eliminate the need to do grain filling and sealing to...

What kind of strings do you prefer?

DR 11s.  Feel like 10s and great tone. Since we're on the subject, has anyone noticed any weirdness when intonating the wound strings using DRs?  I had 4 sets in a row that were strange.  The 12th fret harmonics were not anywhere close to the pitch of the open string, no matter how far I...

The stewmac Understring Radius Gauges are top notch

I never bothered with the math.  I simply capoed the first fret, then adjusted the individual saddles (or filed the notches) to where the bottoms of the individual strings were the same distance from the top of the 22nd or 24th fret.  This causes the compound radius to continue flattening...

Advice on damaged finish after drilling

If you're really concerned, you could place a TINY amount of cyanoacrylate in the hole, and let it wick underneath the raised portion. Personally I wouldn't worry about it.

    Newbie

Thanks for the compliments and the welcomes!  :hello2: I used Jessup's natural oil-based stain as a sealer Behlen's waterbase grainfiller with black pigment mixed Zinser's wax-free shellac as a sanding sealer Jessup's semi-gloss polyurethane sprayed with those little Preval spray units Then I...

    Neck scale

No, they don't have enough choices!  I also want a guitar that will make me a sandwich after a gig.  :icon_thumright: Many years ago prior to being enlightened to Warmoth, I owned a very nice 1991 PRS custom 24.  I bought it used for $700 (not a typo, this was before their values were...

    colortone liquid stain

I've not used the stuff from Stew-Mac directly, but I have used the Trans-tint, which is what I believe Stew-Mac carried prior to putting their name on everything (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).  The bottle and cap look identical, and the instructions are very similar.  It could be the...

    Neck scale

I would love to see a 25" neck scale option for 6 string.  They already have it for their 7 string necks.

Has anyone ever tried this product?

http://www.olddads.com/ This stuff has pretty much converted me to polyurethane for my own guitar finishes. They have a private label program, so I'm able purchase it locally from an unfinished furniture store.  Their sales pitch is a wipe-on poly that doesn't look wiped on.  It has additives...

How to install Wlikinson tremolo ? (height setup ?)

My method, and it's basically Dan Erlewine's method:  I've made a triangular shaped wedge that can be placed between the tremolo block and the rear of the trem cavity (towards the butt of the guitar).  Like the previous post, adjust the two 'E' string saddles to be flush with the plate. ...

    Dead fret

A fret rocker is definitely a good investment, as is Dan Erlewine's book.  I've worn my book out. I've purchased 5 Warmoth necks.  Every single one needed a fret leveling for super - low action.  It seemed the bigger the fret, the more work needed. A really good fretwork tutorial can be found...

    Removing stubborn tuner bushings

Good morning!  I would say anyway that solves the issue without damage is a good way.  A method that may be a bit simpler if you run into this again, is using a dowel that's just a bit smaller than the tuner hole.  I'll secure the neck somehow, using a vice normally, then place the headstock...
