Finish opinion on 7/8th Warmoth body

The reply today reminded me that I shouldn't leave a post hanging like this. I checked with StewMac and they say their color tone is definitely good for spray and recommend their alternate WB product for brushing. I believe that one of the posts earlier hit the nail on the head about KTM-9. It...

Finish opinion on 7/8th Warmoth body

That is a good idea. I was guessing that KTM-9 may be formulated for brushing. It performs perfectly under that use, I'm loving the leveling that's happening with this baby start. Though as pointed out, perhaps mine was thickened a bit from sitting on the shelf for so long. Not certain the...

Finish opinion on 7/8th Warmoth body

I believe it was two years ago I bought this can, I'm looking for the receipt. I hope you are correct, I didn't even think of it and I was loath to change finishes because of how perfectly it levels when brushing. Indeed, there was only a third of a can left when I started this job, so it...

Finish opinion on 7/8th Warmoth body

Hello, I purchased one of the first 7/8ths bodies when Warmoth began to offer that option, it's an oldy. At the time, I didn't finish it, I just wanted to test out some sounds using a short scale swamp ash body. This year, I got the hankering to actually finish the thing and had lots of KTM-9...

    Received my 7/8s S

I don't think I'd call them "fine" exactly. I wasn't going to go there given how off-the-wall it will be, it's a bit dull, but.... ;). It's an experiment, both with the neck, scale and pickups. I've been planning it for a long time, bought everything and even had built a similar sized body, but...

    Received my 7/8s S

On the weight issue. I am surprised myself, the original weight I quoted was very close (the FedEx receipt was from a completely different vendor... DOH, it was pore filler ). Anyway, I weighed the 7/8s on a USPS digital scale and it was 4.3. This is missing the bridge PU route and bridge holes...

    Received my 7/8s S

In the more rational dawn, I agree. In fact, I checked the FedEx stat and it shows they considered it 2.0 lbs/.9kg as the ship weight which must include the box. I tossed a 1 1/4 pound plate mate on that scale and it showed 1.5 lbs, the scales error is probably non-linear but it's clearly shot...

    Received my 7/8s S

My son just gave me the word, "It's pics or GTFO with the internet nowadays" ;). I thought I was supposed to be teaching HIM about life. It's two piece, but a good match. I will be painting it though. The dot is the index hole.

    Received my 7/8s S

I would not have posted had I realized that. My camera is dead, the battery won't charge. It does exist, the Warmoth invoice says STRAT BODY, 7/8, SASH, R/R, HXX(INDEX OK), XXXX, NO BRG, 7/8SJ, LANP. Then contoured heel separately. Note to self: "buy camera BEFORE posting no matter how excited...

    Received my 7/8s S

I was happy to come home to a Warmoth box. The Monday after they announced the 7/8s, I called them and custom ordered a Swamp Ash S, contoured heel, angled pocket, neck HB route, instrument cavity, deleting trem and bridge routes. I already have it and I think the announcement was just two...

    12-string piezo?

You might try rolling your own. Windworld.com offers films in lengths to do any sort of mounting. They have multiple sizes, so you can split or use a single strip. I bought some to test with but haven't gotten around to disassemble and rework my 12-string yet. My plan was to affix them to the...

    New categories in the Showcase

Thanks. I was thinking of custom ordering without trem or bridge route for a short scale neck I have that has a standard fender heel.  I'm guessing the body to be about 13.75-14 inches which would be perfect. This will save many hours of woodworking for tiny guitars. I'm calling Monday morning.

Are the pocket dimensions on the 7/8 S (or T) body still identical to the pocket dimensions on the standard replacement body?  I'm referring to the 3x2 3/16 dimension.

    Silver highlighted grain?

I'm now questioning my memory, I did another search realizing it could have been anytime from early summer to December. What I thought I saw was that the underlying stain or dye grayed such that the effect was rather like a chrome and no browns coming through after clear coat. Everything I came...

    Silver highlighted grain?

Sure. I'll dig through the search list later today, working right now. I tried last night but couldn't find what I was talking about. I'm now thinking earlier December or even November time frame since I think the big discount was on at that time. I'd bet Warmoth did the finishes I'm talking...
