    FINISHED!! 32" Jazz Bass

Oh and this fact is pretty cool too... Light wood... medium scale... and a chambered body all add up to one hell of a light bass and feels wonderful.

    FINISHED!! 32" Jazz Bass

Today I got a much welcomed surprise from the guitar shop that was doing final setup on my finished build. I was there to pick it up within minutes of their call! IT IS DONE!!!!! And the verdict is... drum roll... I absolutely ADORE this bass. The 32" scale is phenomenal as a guitarist, the...

Pick Guard doesn't fit with control plate

Thanks, Cagey! That was a wonderful suggestion. Not only did it work perfectly (and quickly) but it saved me buying a dremel also!

Pick Guard doesn't fit with control plate

Has anyone else out there built a Warmoth Shortscale bass? According to them, their SS pick guards are slightly different than their full size jazz pick guards but they are meant to work with normal full size jazz control plates. However, when I went to mount them I found the result below...

    FINISHED!! 32" Jazz Bass

The last step today before finishing, painting the waterslide decal. If anyone else is doing this I can highly recommend holding the decal up to a window and looking for any thin paint or missed spots. They're very hard to see when looking at the sloppy backside of the decal that you paint...

    FINISHED!! 32" Jazz Bass

You know, cagey. I'm almost in agreement with you. I still like elements of the fender shape but now that I've made this hybrid the fender does really seem bulbous and exagerated, compared to the sleeker lines of the warhead. If it weren't so iconic, it'd probably look weird if a new bass came...

    FINISHED!! 32" Jazz Bass

This weekend I was down in the Los Angeles area so I dropped off my Warhead neck with the one and only John Kallas of John Kallas Vintage Basses (http://johnkvintageguitars.homestead.com/ for him to help me with my headstock reshape. Originally I was only wanting to fix the tip of the headstock...

    FINISHED!! 32" Jazz Bass

Mail day! Mail day! My neck has arrived and I'm in love. I asked for a very subtle flame from Warmoth and they definitely delivered. I requested (and paid extra) for the headstock to be blank so that I can mount a set of Hipshot Ultralites in there instead of the BML that come pre-drilled...

    FINISHED!! 32" Jazz Bass

UPS arrived!! Unboxing picture porn to follow!! Well packed as expected. Swamp-ash top. It's getting finished anyway but some might poke through the relic She's light! I couldn't help but cramming my parts in for a mockup. Even with the Sadowsky preamp and Badass bridge, it's still...

    FINISHED!! 32" Jazz Bass

No this is for an unfinished body. I'm having Matt Jenny at MJT do a nitro relic finish on it once it arrives. So that part will take several more weeks but I was expecting 4-5 weeks to get the body and neck and THEN sending it off for finishing. This puts me ahead of schedule and ahead of...

    FINISHED!! 32" Jazz Bass

WHAA?!?! Only two weeks after ordering my body, I just got a UPS Shipment Notification for it!! The neck is still on its way but still...

Warmoth Jazz Bass Decal based on Fender Logo

Well actually the numbers on my headstock are all unrelated to the patent numbers. They're other numbers that have significance to me in some way. The bottom row for example is 31.960 and 92.014, which is the month/year that the Jazz bass debuted (March 1960) and the month/year I'll finish my...

Warmoth Jazz Bass Decal based on Fender Logo

It's not a font. It was a two step process. First I took the fender logo in Photoshop and chopped it up to see what parts of letters I could recycle. The idea being that the more I could mine from the Fender logo, the more it would be instantly recognizable as an homage to the original. Turns...

Warmoth Jazz Bass Decal based on Fender Logo

I printed it out on laser printer compatible waterslide paper (not easy to find in San Francisco but I think I got the last pack!). If you print in reverse and leave blank (white) the parts you want to be gold, then those parts will be clear on the waterslide decal and you can fill in the back...
