    Burnishing Raw Necks

Yeah, I think you're right.  I think the only difference that the paste wax made is that it is more water proof.  But I don't plan on that neck being in any extremely humid environments or resting drinks on the neck.  :) It was at its slickest when I was done with the 2000grit sandpaper and...

    Burnishing Raw Necks

OK, well a few days with not a single reply, I went ahead and tried "sanding" it down with the higher grit (1200 and 4k) polishing papers.  They didn't really seem to do much t all. I applied the Howard's citrus Wax Paste to one neck.  Rubbed it in, waited ~12 minutes, wiped it down and buffed...

    Burnishing Raw Necks

OK, here are the pics... Warmoth-Original.jpg: This is the best shot I could get, as it came from Warmoth.  Sanded to 200 grit apparently.  It looks great out of the box, but the flames don't really have that 3d look, and at some angles the flames are a little hard to see...

    Burnishing Raw Necks

OK, so I did the sanding up to 2000 grit.  I couldn't do 45 minutes with the 1500 or 2000 because the paper that I had fell apart.  I did 2 necks and each got 20-30 minutes at these stages.  The result was the neck was really nice as so many reported here.  Felt like a smooth gloss, but not...

    Burnishing Raw Necks

Forgive me if this has been answered already, but it's a long thread.... I recently got a AAAAA roasted flamed maple neck from Warmoth, w/ another on the way (both showcase bargains!). At first I was looking to apply some tung or tru-oil or something to bring out the flames some more.  Then I...

    Roasted Flame Maple Necks

Bad link.  You apparently copied & pasted the link while you were editing that thread or something. It will probably work for you but not the rest of us.

Ordering a flamed roasted maple neck - tips?

After what Warmoth said I decided to take another look at the in-stock options.  I found almost exactly what I was looking for! Roasted flamed maple neck and board (2-piece, but thats ok).  High quality flames (so at least the +$200 AAA upcharge) VM Construction 59 Roundback, which would have...

Ordering a flamed roasted maple neck - tips?

Thought I'd share what Warmoth told me regarding the flamed roasted maple necks as well as 1-piece vs 2-piece necks: "We only had a limited amount of One Piece suitable Roasted Flame that we could use and, we put that all up online. Also, those were aggressively priced to move as they aren’t...

Ordering a flamed roasted maple neck - tips?

Well, I grabbed this one off of the showcase.  It was almost exactly what I was looking for.  Amazing figuring, nice and dark, 1piece, V/M construction, 22 frets. The big deal to me is I *really* wanted a right-hand reverse.  It is the standard profile, and I'd really like to try out the EVH...

Ordering a flamed roasted maple neck - tips?

OK, thanks for the confirmation.  I was afraid of that.  Because I know that they are SUPER busy in the neck department I really hesitate to give them a call, but I might just have to.  THanks!

Ordering a flamed roasted maple neck - tips?

Well, I can tell you this.... Go into the customizer and select a Baritone scale neck.  It asks for shaftwood and you can select roasted maple.  Then you can select the fretboard.  You can select roasted maple. That's what I did a while back, and what I received was a 1-piece roasted maple...

Ordering a flamed roasted maple neck - tips?

So in August or so I'm going to be ordering a flamed, roasted maple neck.  1 piece.  Obviously I'd like to get it as flamey and caramel-y looking as possible.  I've seen lots of flamed roasted maple necks where the back looks flamed as does the headstock, but the fretboard looks plain or close...

Tone of Roasted Maple neck vs Fretboard choice

Unless I missed it (which is possible) that was just an abstract.  It notes that there are tonal differences between aged and newly cut wood.  THis is nothing new for musicians.  Stradivari used to soak his wood in water for up to 2 years and then dry it out, and only used old-growth woods. ...

Where to buy Wilkinson VS401 in the US?

It will take forever to get here and I'd like Warmoth to do the stud installs.  And it looks to be more than twice the price that way too.  At this point I think I'll just go for the Gotoh 510, buy it through Warmoth, and have them do the stud install.

Where to buy Wilkinson VS401 in the US?

Right, but WD in the US sells the vs100n for $200+.  Warmoth for $96. And neither seem to sell the VS401 in the USA at all!  I can't find (so far) anyone who sells that bridge here. :(
