Mahogany strat and Walnut Mooncaster builds!

Alright, this will probably be my last post in this thread since it’s in the ‘in progress’ section, but my first gig with the Mooncaster was great and I can confidently say it will very likely become my #1. It’s a fantastic instrument (despite my relative ineptitude in the finishing & assembly...

Mahogany strat and Walnut Mooncaster builds!

Quite good! The contoured neck heel helps a lot. I’d wager it wouldn’t be quite as good as a strat build with the contoured heel, due to the neck meeting the body further up on the strat. But it’s definitely a step up from the non-contoured strat I just built in that area!

Mahogany strat and Walnut Mooncaster builds!

It was definitely WAY easier to work on the electronics than in my semi-hollow les paul!

Mahogany strat and Walnut Mooncaster builds!

Okay, the Mooncaster is done! The electronics gave me plenty of issues that turned out to be from a bad toggle switch (and a second bad toggle switch LOL. Only buying CTS from now on), but they have all been solved. The angled toggle switch I use doesn’t really have enough clearance for much...

Mahogany strat and Walnut Mooncaster builds!

Thanks! I’m out of town for the weekend but I have a new toggle switch and a few more parts coming in so when I’m back I should be finishing it up in a couple days! It looks really great.

Mahogany strat and Walnut Mooncaster builds!

The Strat is done! I had put it to the side for a while after getting a little frustrated with the tung oil process, but finishing it up was very fun! The Mooncaster has been a little less so. Just having some wiring issues. I still have to set intonation, finish dialing in neck relief and...

Just ordered my first build! Gold flake double bound tele w/rosewood neck and ebony fingerboard!

I just tried it and I believe it only works when you select ‘none’ for body contours.

Mahogany strat and Walnut Mooncaster builds!

Hey! I wanted to share the builds I’m working on right now. The strat body is a mahogany lam top over a pretty plain two-piece mahogany. Its neck is canary wood with an ebony fingerboard. The mooncaster body is walnut over mahogany, and the neck is mahogany with a wenge fingerboard...

    Heritage Cherry Soloist build!

Thanks for the information! I thought the only difference was an 1/8” roundover instead of 1/4” on the sides. I’ve changed the title. Also, a little update! After acclimating to string tension for a day and a tiny bit more adjusting it plays great! Not perfect by any means but enough that I’ll...

    Heritage Cherry Soloist build!

Okay, the heritage cherry finish I did had a lot of issues. There were bits of dust and stuff, plus I sanded through the finish during pre-cure level sanding. Hand sanded all of it off which was my inspiration to buy an orbital sander 🤣 which I now have and love! I opted for a tru oil finish...

    Heritage Cherry Soloist build!

Working on my second Warmoth build, and my first time finishing a guitar myself! The body is mahogany, and I’m finishing it with supplies from Stewmac. So far I’ve filled the grain, sealed it, and applied the first layer of cherry red. Process has been far from problem free (you can see the spot...

Just ordered my first build! Gold flake double bound tele w/rosewood neck and ebony fingerboard!

well, I got her all put together and strung up! Have a bit of a grounding issue to sort out, and the action isn’t perfect. I think most of my issues with the action will be solved, just adding a little bit of relief to the neck which is right now almost perfectly straight. I am immensely happy...

No, sorry! I believe that’s the cost of the pickups. I should have cropped that out of the photo!

I still need to string it up and probably install string trees, and sort out whatever is causing the control plate to bow out a little bit. But I am THRILLED.
