2-knob placement option

A standardized option for a 1vol 1tone knob routing on bodies and pickguards, such as you see on a typical Charvel or Ibanez.

Definitely understood that Warmoth can’t configure their setup for every person’s specific 2 knob placement preference, and it definitely does vary, but I think there’s probably a decent middle ground. (The Tom Delonge isn’t really close enough to count.)

I’ve done a number with a handheld drill and reamer to get a serviceable result, combined with the stock tone 2 location for the second knob, but I’d rather a good ol’ CNC machine cut pickguard show up ready to go.

Two-knob guitarists are people too... seriously you guys have inlays that glow in the dark but a Charvel knob rout is too much?

Also, obligatory re-request for a trans wine red finish option

First question would probably be: how do you communicate the coordinates of these knob locations in an unambiguous way? Then, what if when the body/pickguard shows up the coordinates aren't the utopia you thought they'd be? I don't know, but I strongly suspect this sort of option would result in a lotta returns, and nobody wants that. Best option for the user with unique control position requirements is no holes at all, and let them do that work. It's relatively easy stuff, and drill motors are as common as furry pets.

Placement would be communicated with a diagram just the way all of the other layouts are.

Again, I’m talking about one standardized Warmoth layout option with more balanced spread than you get by just omitting the volume or Tone 1 on the Strat control layout. I’m not suggesting a custom shop for those requiring their own particular placement. Warmoth’s pretty clear about their specs so I don’t know what to tell you about the customer who gets a custom config and wants to return it.

Bottom line is that it’s been an extremely common knob setup for 30+ years, yet one that you can’t order from Warmoth. Excepting the 7/8th scale bodies and pickguards, which they seemed to find a solution for just fine. And there’s an alternate volume placement option for a far less seen config available now...

You are right but they don't want to do it, I have asked in the past and I'm sure others have asked. Probably because Fender doesn't do it. Charvel, Jackson, Anderson, Suhr, Schecter and others all offer it slightly different, Warmoth can choose their own and have it as an option. It's better to offer it than say omit the volume knob, it's asymmetric and looks weird to me.

A customer has a thousand reasons to send a product back, I don't think a standard two hole rout offer would add much to their returns. They have it on the 7/8 series, the customer can see on the site the placement of the knobs.

Can’t recall about Fender but I’ve seen a number of Squiers with it for sure.

There are reasons to say no if you’re looking for them I guess but with the depth of options offered, this one seems like a small ask.

As to DIY - always an option for everything, but people’s skill level and tools vary. My first Ws were ordered back in the catalog days, before the internet, and long before I even knew what a drill press was.

Don’t get me wrong - learning experiences are invaluable and all, and over time I’ve learn a ton. But sometimes you just want a nice sharp pickguard instead one with of a blown out, melty volume hole and a life lesson about your handheld drill.

Anyways just a suggestion for the suggestion box, I guess simplified as ‘an option B vol location for an upcharge.’

I support this suggestion. If it was offered on the full-size bodies in a similar way to what it is on the 7/8 series that would probably satisfy a lot of people.

This is something I have coming up on a pickguard soon I bought with no vol and tone holes. Not so bad to do there but if it was a rear rout with a cool paint job you might want it done.
