Hello,

I will be ordering a swamp ash jazz body with a zebra wood top soon. Does anyone know how/if its possible to get a finish like the Warwick pictured?

EDIT Does anyone think that I cold achieve this Warwick finish with black or brown grain filler and then a light stain?

Or does anyone know how Warwick finish their basses?

Thanks.

Some zebra has a VERY tight grain.  Depending on the finish you desire, you may not need to grain fill.  Also tru oil will be shiny.  I did my zebra with satin poly, it turned out great.

it has a slight texture to the wood...

I have a zebrawood body it definitely needed a grain fill.  I did the "sand in the tru oil" method.  The tru oil itself tinted the zebrawood a little darker than the picture of that bass.

Just sanded:

Thanks for the pics. Definitily food food for thought. I have done a couple of guitars in nitrocellulose spray, so fancied trying something different.

Crash, with the sand in method, do you put it on with a cloth to start with? And did you use a tinted grain filler or tru oil?

Thanks,

Adam

It is something like that yes. I'm just not sure on the method. So if you or anyone has an idea then i would love to know how it's done.

Cheers,

Adam

Found it.  It's not zebrawood, but the finish may be close to what you're after.

PM him for more details, I'm sure he'd happily oblige.

That's great thanks for that. Not sure how it will work with zebra wood, but will definitely use his technique for the ash back. I'll drop him a him a message.

Thanks again.
