So, three months ago I bought four tickets to the Iron Maiden concert in Chicago, which is this Sunday.

I live in Minnesota, so I have a 8-hour one-way drive. All the tickets were spoken for, until earlier this
week when every one of the people who said 'save a ticket for me man' now told me to a man they
couldnt go anymore. So, now it looks like Im driving 16+ hours out of 72 by myself. F**k me.

Just logged on to the Iron Maiden Fan Club forum, and had a private message in my in-box.

JUST WON FRONT ROW CENTER TICKETS FROM A RANDOM DRAWING!!!!!

For the second time a row! :D

Ahem.

Up the Irons!

you will go as a Maiden fan and come back as a dream theater fan! ;)

Seriously, it will be amazing! congrats on the front row ticket! we were all the way upfront in the pit as well.. great to see bruce & friends up close.. watch out for bruce's sweat showers!

I went to an Iron Maiden show last week and came back more convinced then ever that I'm NOT a fan of Dream Theatre.  :laughing7: To my ears, their set was just...boring.

Maiden on the other hand! Despite being a casual fan (and thus not knowing several of the songs they played), I thought the show was great. The only downside would have to be that third guitarist (I forget the name, but I think it sounds Scandinavian). Terrible, terrible "look how many notes I can play" solos. Just a constant stream of 16th notes. :tard:

Everyone else was fantastic. I hope I have that much energy at that age.  :laughing7:

Janic Gers is his name... bloody awful player.

Dream Theatre would be a good band if they had a decent singer.

My best mate is a massive fan and we've been arguing about it for years.
I think they should get Geoff Tate to sing for them.. at least you can understand what he says.  :headbang1:

Hope thats good, sounds like itll be amazing, pity iron maiden are too big to go anywhere but wembly in england there home country, cause id love to buy tickets a year in advanced for them to play birmingham or somewhere  :headbang1:

Thanks man! I'm already a Dream Theater fan, but they're a joe-blow bar band compared to 'Maiden!  :laughing7:

Janick is a good player - not in the same league as Dave or Adrian - but I think he compliments 'Maiden well.
I'm not a Gers fan by any means, but he impressed me when I saw 'Maiden last year in Florida. As for not playing
anything lower on the fretboard - you should check out his solo off of 'Blood Brothers' (Live, Rock in Rio) its amazing.
Technically its not 'wow' or anything, but the emotion and feeling he plays it with just makes me want to head bang, and
I want to learn how to play that song just for the solo - its that good.

My problem with Mr. Gers is just the continuous stream of notes he emits. C'mon man, play an 8th note, a triplet, a rest...anything! He's got serious chops, no doubt there, but his style just doesn't do it for me. To each his own!

i would never personally go to see dream theater, I LOVE petrucci's tone on the images and words album, but after that they just took it in a direction i didnt enjoy.

"Images and Words" is the only Dream Theater album I really like ... good songwriting with just the right amount of technical virtuosity ... after that the songwriting suffered.

Iron Maiden has been one of my favorite bands forever,  The Smith/Murray guitar combo has to be the best in all of rock and roll.  No real opinion on Gerrs for me .... I kinda lost interest after the "Seventh Son" album.  Loved everything they did before.
