That's too bad.
Not to discount the loss, but I'm not sure we're losing musicians at any greater rate than normal. Maybe even less, since self-destructive behavior isn't quite as popular as it once was. We're just hearing about it more. The Internet is the Great Exposer and that ability appeals to the exhibitionist we all harbor somewhere deep inside - we hear about everything these days, one way or another. Industry folks, pundits, social networking, etc. all thrive on spreading information, no matter how trivial or irrelevant. Some people can hardly fart these days without posting the event, and some will even take pictures of the food they just ordered at a restaurant and post it. Nothing is sacred or private. Plus, the number of famous folks is increasing all the time, since it's easier to get that way. Then, you gotta consider some of us are old enough to have a much larger background in not only who we know of, but how old they are. I keep thinking too many are dying, but then I look at all the actors/musicians I grew up with and find out they're all in their late 60s to early 80s. It's no wonder they're dying. We all have shelf lives and their associated expiration dates.
