Windows 7 article I found amusing for you nerdy computer types

"Maybe it's me, but if you're writing for a technology site or getting published by one and you don't know you can do a full install with an upgrade disc then you just shouldn't have a job."

Most people that WRITE for technology sites or the like, up to and including Walt Mossberg/John Dvorak, don't know jacksh*t about anything...

well from what i heard, Microsoft did go in a weird direction with their Vista to 7 upgrade. As long as you were staying within the same "grade" (i.e. Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium) the disc acted as a simple upgrade, no loss of files or settings, programs etc.. If you choose a different grade (32 bit to 64 bit or from Home to Professional) you were basically forced to reformat the HDD and do a clean install, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless you forgot to back up all your important docs to begin with, which isn't really user friendly to the average (or sub average) computer user.

I agree that it is different, but that just makes it even more inexcusable that this guy didn't know if you could do a clean install.  Personally, I would never do the upgrade stuff.  It's always better to wipe it out and start over.

That has nothing to do with the ability of a user or a tech...some people prefer to flip through a newspaper or mag than read it online...completely ot from the op, but yea...
