Why don't we see more colored neck finishes here?

I'm honestly surprised that more people don't choose to have the shaft of their neck painted a solid or transparent color. Until recently I didn't even know that Warmoth
offered that because I've never seen it here (Or anywhere else, for that matter)! A few weeks I was taking another look at the neck finishes page on the Warmoth
site and I was floored when I read that they painted the backs of necks any color you want. I'm definitely getting a completely Shamrock Green soloist and Strat neck
with a pau ferro fretboard once I have some money to spend. I actually used to wish that they would offer this because I wanted it so badly. So, why aren't more people
taking advantage of this option. It's just so damn cool!

Because people don't like necks with finishes on them.

Raw wood feels much nicer.

That's true, but not all woods can go without a finish, maple and mahogany being a prime examples. Since regular ol' maple or mahogany necks are a dime a dozen, who cares if you cover it up? I have a couple VIPs in the pipe and one of those I'm going to do with a blue burst to black with a black back, and the neck is going to be an inlay-free ebony over maple neck that's painted black. I might even put gold hardware on it just to piss everybody off <grin>

Just kidding. It'll be begging for chrome hardware.

neck I ordered today has a nice black gloss finish to match the body. As above, with regular maple its not like I am losing anything by covering it up. You will see it is a few months. :)

I don't because I've been programmed not the like them by Fender's assembly line process of making a ton of necks without any regard to the color of the body they're going on.  But kidding aside, I've swapped 2 necks around already, which is some of the convention of bolt on neck construction.  Aesthetically, it wouldn't be as pleasing to match up uncomplimentary colors.  Also, of my 4 Warmoth necks, 1 is a raw exotic and 2 are Birdseye Maple.  Of those, one would never get a finish, the other 2 wouldn't get a solid finish.  The 4th is on a sunbursted body of a different wood.  The same, transparent, bursted finish on 2 dissimilar woods....?  Not happening, but thanks for asking.

It can look great, but if your like me and are fussy about how guitars should feel, it has to be satin or no finish. Have to say there are some woods that are so beautiful that it would be a crime to slap some boring colour on it.

That's true. But, not all species are available for all neck styles. The tilt-backs, for instance, limit what's available.

For the price of a clear finish, most exotics are cheaper.

I saw a guitar in the fender calendar last year that had a dyed neck, so I looked up how much it would cost.  $125.00 for the dye, and $45.  Oh, and they say they can only dye a complete maple neck "Limited to Clear or Vintage Tint back & fingerboard." So it wouldn't look like the one in the calendar anyway.

Saint Leo did it. There is only ONE TRUE PATH.
Goddam heathens.

Exactly. What the hell is wrong with you people? Making changes to Leo's sacred designs? Filthy sinners, all of you! Repent of this wickedness, lest you be sent to guitar Hell.

Maple doesn't require a finish.  Warmoth will not warranty one without a finish, or if they are oiled.  Something like that.  The EVH guitars, if I remember correctly, just have a minimal oil treatment.  Tonar often shows the boiled linseed oil treatment.  I believe that Max's first Tele's neck wasn't finished either.  So it isn't a must do to have a finish on Maple.  But, if something goes wrong, it is your problem.
