Which Pickup for L6s 500C and 500R?

maybe cb can chime in. i think he had one but i think the origonal had more traditional gibson humbuckers. out of what you listed i think the l500r in the neck and the l500l in the bridge or a pair of l500r might be close. i cant remember the specs but i know the l500c is the brightest, the l500r i think is about the inductance of a PAF pickup but brighter and louder because of his designs having fewer eddies near the pickup. the l500l is a hot pickup and the l500xl of coarse is the dimebucker and very hot.

hmm.

The original L6s pickups were VERY strong, very bright.  They used Lawrences "Super Humbucking" three magnet configuration, which allowed fewer turns, which brightened the output, and still retained the "power".  They were ceramic magnets, fully potted in resin.

I'd go, personally, with an underwound set of Fralins, or the Burstbucker #1 in both positions.  It wont be "the same" but will be a very nice toned guitar. (the original being sorta bright, with its all maple neck and body)

This is an L6-S that I scratch built a couple years ago. I made iot with a 25 1/2" scale length.

The pickups are Seymour Duncan. Custom V in the bridge spot and a '59 at the neck. I bought plain chrome covers and soldered them on to make it look like the original.

I made the guitar out of mahogany because I wanted that great, thin body SG sound in a guitar that would balance properly. If you close your eyes and plug this in, it's pure Angus Young baby!

Thanks for your response.  I went with the  Lawrence L90s (cream color), solid maple body and fatback neck, bloodwood finger board, bone nut, Schroeder wrap around bridge, Grover super rotomatic tunners.  Oh yes it sounds perfect.  :)

After an email to Becky Lawrence she recommended the standard L90 set for this guitar.  The sound is very good not too bright but still with a nice chime. Not muddy at all.
