What is up with this?!?!

I've went all out before on a neck where money was no object and still only spent $487.

Just saying... :dontknow:

It probably is the quarter sawn and combination of flame. I doubt that there will be that many pieces like that.  Perhaps it's also a test to see what sort of price it can attract  :dontknow:

What surprises me is that they didn't make it with their double truss rod,

It's a single piece of quartersawn flame, not a two-piece (neck & fretboard) hence the single truss rod.  I prefer the Pro, but there are lots of players who think one-piece necks sound superior and those are the same people who will pay a premium.  Pretty smart if you ask me.  There are also a number of one-piece necks in the $700 range so I don't really understand the hissy fit.  And, like others have said, I don't think I've ever seen that combo on the W site.  Can you imagine what the price would be if it came out of the Fender Custom Shop?  Match it up with an $800 Koa body and you're still going to be 1/4 cheaper than a similar offerings from the big guys.

No hissy fit at all. It's a simple discussion.

Also fully aware that it's a single piece of maple, that is quatersawn and flame. Apart from the skunk stripe at the back.

I'm betting it was a custom order that was backed out on. Buyer's remorse at the price. That is one pretty hunk of kindling but not $810.00 worth in my eyes.

It would have been a quick sell to someone if it had been left raw, no nut or frets. That way, it could have been configured to meet the end user's preferences. Now it's a wait by W until someone wants that exact configuration.

That, or it will be sold/traded around for stupid amounts of money and never built.

Just my $0.02 USD worth.

:dontknow: Just don't look at the expensive ones unless you can afford to. Simple !!

Here's a Tele neck that beats that strat one.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Myself would rather 3 Pau Ferro raw necks with Ebony fretboards & no inlays with ss frets, for that price.

But someone will buy them, as I have seen other expensive ones go.

Yeah. To each his own.

I'm just glad I don't get my juices going over q-sawn flamed maple and abelone.

Give me a raw Goncalo Alvez neck with a slab of Ebony, Macassar, Pau Ferro or any other Ebony-ish feeling woods and I'll be glad.

With all the work already done on it, I wonder if it was a return.
It smells like "credit card declined" or "I changed my mind".

If someone places a custom order, when is the credit card charged ?

Is it when placing an order or just prior to shipping ?

Curious how it works as the bits I have ordered so far have been ready to go in the showcase.

I'm working off of info from when I worked there 5.5 years ago, so take into consideration that things may have changed since then, and only Warmoth themselves could provide certain clarity

For normal orders, usually it was charged right before shipping, but for custom stuff considering "off menu" it would be considering "Non-Returnable/Pre-Charge" due to the fact that it would not be something that could move if it were to end up in the showcase.

That's too much money for me to spend on a neck, but as far as 1/4 sawn goes, that quite lovely.  Usually that cut of wood isn't known for bringing out the best of grain, but wow.  This one is special.

$810 for a Strat neck?

Time will tell how quickly it sells and for what price.

Took about a week  :o

Whoever paid that much for a maple neck had better come forward...

All the other add ons basically come in metered chunks. But figuring is pretty much unlimited and the crazier the figure, the more folks are willing to pay. You can get "ordinary" flame for much less, and they look nice.

I've pretty much resolved myself that no matter how much money I have, there's always going to be someone willing to spend more money on toys to differentiate themselves than I am.

Nor was it me. I probably have spent that much on a neck before, but I'm pretty sure it had binding and other bells and whistles
