I know there are various blues out there.  I'm not sure what you'd call this exact blue.  What could be used for a DIY finish in this exact color?

the closest color that comes tomidis Lake placid blue. :dontknow:

the closest warmoth has is daphne i think, and thats not all that close. might be a good idea to print that out and get home depot to make you some? i love the color!

lake placid blue can be pretty close to that, but it's a metallic color so the angle can change the shade a lot.

this guitar is warmoth's shade of lake placid blue

Thanks for the thorough replies with pics!  I posted the same question up on another forum and had some similar responses.  I think you're both right.  It comes close to both, and I came to the realization that the color I'm really searching for is Ford's Grabber Blue which first appeared on Mustangs in the 70's.  It came and went a few times, and is currently one of their Mustang color options.  From what I have been able to tell from looking at images online there is a slight difference between the original grabber blue and today's.  I think the image I put im my original post more closely resembles the original grabber blue.  In any case, I like both the old and new, and I might have to have some mixed up for my next project.  Incidentally there was a guy on the other forum who posted an old Carvin bass with an almost identical color.  Looks great!

I wouldn't put 100% trust in internet pics - things will always look different depending on your monitor and the conditions when the photos were taken. Take some shots of your own guitars and post them - you'll see what I mean, "oh it's not really that orange in person etc."

I was gonna go with Sonic or Daphne Blue, but on 2nd look, it's too dark to be either of those.

And it's too light for Lake Placid Blue.

Might have to go to the auto paints for this one.
