Whoo. I have always though the MM/EB original Steve Morse guitar was a fine piece, and the various Petrucci's, Axis' and others - well I wouldn't throw 'em out for eating crackers in bed. But that Petrucci Majesty. Boy, oh boy. I got the impression that the upgraded "Private Reserve" Morse & Petrucci guitars were kind of forced on the players, you get more bucks for the bang with the stripy maple tops etc. But you could tell from the Bongo and the Armada that these guys weren't just playing with it, and now this. Do you think they'll trade direct for a Toyota? Or should I wait to see if Morse trumps it with something, uh, even more majesticaller?

I like the recessed pickup selector switches. Those knobs don't have any "grip," though, and the carbon fiber business is fugly.

Cool blue finish, in any case.

Compensated nut thingy too.

I traded into my first EBMM in the last 6 months; a bass.  Bought another used one shortly thereafter.  Their fretwork is immaculate!  Their back of neck finishes, it goes against everything I've learned on this forum about the way a finished maple neck  should feel.  They are doing something right.

But, and it's a big but, their SUB series is appropriately named because they are sub par.  Fretwork was horrible!  The underside of the neck was the worst I'd ever felt.  I wanted to buy one, plug it in, and trim my hedges or carve a turkey.

To bring it back around to the posted link, you gotta let things like that slide.  The old saying, "if you're not messing up, you're not learning." Everyone wants to make the next classic, à la Tele, Strat, Les Paul and that doesn't get done by making Teles, Strats, and Les Pauls.

The JP endorsement (sure he had the idea for that years ago), who didn't?  Talented people with a good business sense and smart enough to keep their weiners off Twitter are quitting music because there's more money selling Advocare.  When he got started, there probably wasn't a Mrs. Petrucci.

I wonder how useable those recessed knobs are when you're in the middle of a song.

Aesthetically, I find it quite cheesy as a "signature" instruments — the Petrucci "shields" are everywhere and the DM logo on the first fret looks like an afterthought. And I know the name is (at least partly) a reference to the pre-Dream Theater days, but come on. Even the Ibanez Vai signature is less pretentious.

I kinda like the black version, mainly because it makes the shield thing on the body less noticeable, even though there's still too much of it in the bridge & lower body shape.

I love the design on this. It's a little space agey but it's a different animal that I like. I've always like basses that have an extra long upper horn and now I'm glad someone made a guitar with that look. Someone give me 5000 bucks please.

The funny thing is that I really like the original Petrucci design. That's a really well thought out guitar. I wasn't so much into the piezo bridge stuff, at least not on that guitar, but the rest of it was really well done. And the one that I played that had an Ebony fretboard had great tone and playability.

This one? Not so much. I can see the desire to have something unique, but I can't see that this is a big improvement over what was already out there.

I think its aiight.

To me it looks like more something Ibanez made for Satriani instead of MM vis a vis Patrucci... but whatevs.

Also, I LOVE Carbon Fiber. But the faux carbon fiber paint on that thing looks kinda lame.

Just my $.02, nothing to see here...

the recessed switches are uhm different, but look at this shot and tell me the fit and finnish on the upper horn isn't horrid

also of all the colors i like blue the least. i have a bias against blue or red guitars and cars. i also hate gold cars but not guitars, and that particular red guitar doesn't bother me too much.
