Well. It's a Les Paul at least, I think.

But, um...

Kinda looks like someone was looking closely at a Strat, but didn't want to be accused of looking closely at a Strat...

I was thinking the same thing. It's likely a photoshop job. Surprised it doesn't have a microphone stand sticking out the front of it, and a scarf tied around the nut.

For some sick reason I kinda almost liked this until I saw the price ... $10,000 ... now I definitely don't like it

I think Gibson needs to focus less on R&D and this nonsense and refocus their efforts on their QC. It would be much more appreciated in the long run than these gimmicky ugly *** creations.

What's up with the Dean V'd headstock?
Make the entire body black and sell it to the aggressive metal guys.

Gibson invented the flying V, and it was weird, and nobody wanted one, and then it became very valuable;
Gibson invented the Explorer, and it was weird, and nobody wanted one, and then it became very valuable;
Gibson invented the Les Paul, and it was kinda weird, and kinda nobody wanted one, and then it became very valuable;

THEREFORE: being weird makes a guitar very valuable. It's just plain logic. They think they're inventing "collectables" for the year 2050. Package 'em with a Beanie Baby and a Pet Rock, now there you'd have something simply irresistible.

(Is there a market for counterfeit Pet Rocks yet? Cause I know this guy, see....)

The Dean-ish headstock, Gibson actually had something similar in the 50s on some early Explorers.  Dean did something similar in the 70s and now Gibson brings it back and it's called a Dean.  It's not like the other Dean models didn't borrow from Gibson.  Like Stubhead said, the Les Paul became so unpopular it was discontinued in the 60s with no plans of reintroduction.  If you have one made after then and you like your SGs called SGs and not Les Pauls, you can thank Townsend, Clapton, and Keef.

Personally, I think this looks classier ....

Has Max moved guitar shops again?  :icon_biggrin:  :icon_scratch:

BTW, that lever switch with the plastic mounting surround goes back to the 3 pickup huge archtop, an ES5 (?), which had that during the 1950s.

Also the V headstock is a reverse of what they did for the original V, the 3 in line control knobs kinda like the V & Explorer.

Agree that Gibson should look over their shoulder at what PRS & others are doing and do it originally and better. A Korina V & Explorer that is affordable (not some mega $ exclusive Custom Shop model), should sell well.

Looks like Gibson is grasping at straws...IMO the Dean Cadillac is a better guitar than the LP. A good friend of mine had a UK made Cadillac, and it felt and played better than any LP I'd ever picked up. Unforunately it got stolen in Dallas at a gig one night... :sad1:
