Warmoth Neck, Scartozi Bridge Content Inside

This is going to be used at our more "acoustic" gigs.

I have used piezo bridges on three other builds, and quite enjoy them.  They don't sound like an acoustic guitar, but they do have some additional frequencies to them.  I find them much more satisfying to strum on then a clean electric especially through an acoustic amp / di box into a pa system.

Ghost piezo bridge in a Scartozi bridge (wonderfully crafted by our own DR6).

The Warmoth neck specs are 24 3/4" conversion neck, standard thin, SS6150 frets, Ebony over Mahoghany.

The body is from another company.  I wanted to use Warmoth, but they were unable to accommodate some of my requests.  I wanted a smaller control hole in the back so you can't see it through the f hole, and I really didn't know what to do with that hole in the centre of the body that they can't seem to fill with anything but an abalone or mother of pearl fret dot.  I wanted this build very clean.  Sitka Spruce on Mahoghany, two f holes, small control route on the back.

A question for anyone who has used Tru Oil before.  This is my first attempt at finishing.

I am using Birchwood Casey Grain Filler / Sealer, and then Tru Oil to finish it.

I am concerned that when I am applying the product on the front and sides, that I will "push" some into the string through holes and the bridge holes.

Is it easier to temporarily plug the holes with a dowel or paper and work around them, or just finish it and use a drill bit to clean out the holes after?

I have read several threads on the subject, and a few you tube videos but I haven't found anything that addresses this issue.

Thanks for any advise.

Easier to clean after, if they need it at all. And with Tru-Oil, it's soft enough that you don't have to worry about chipping.

Pretty freakin' awesome John, but had I known you were tele bound in your quest, I'd have steered you toward the brass...Ask Cagey... :laughing7:

Mmmm... Now that you've reminded me, I gotta pull out that guitar as soon as I get home. Graphtech saddles on a brass Scartozi bridge on a hollow Tele with a Afra neck... what could possibly be wrong with that? Coupled with one of Ken's Roadhouse custom-wound 'buckers? The thing is delicious. One of my favorite guitars. No wang bar, but you can pull off just about anything with that fiddle.

I have seen Cagey's tele.  It is a beaut, but I consider myself to be in the "only nickel color hardware belongs on a guitar" camp.  Sometimes it works, like on the current GOTM winner.  Cagey's guitar is a stunner, and I have built a carved top tele recently.  My FAVOURITE guitar shape that Warmoth offers.  Comfy and light.  Here's mine:

Doug, I will keep you posted on developments!  I can't wait to receive the Scartozi bridge.

My hollow body carved top tele is the ONLY guitar I play anymore.  Most comfy guitar I have ever played.  As for the tremolo, haven't had the need for one in years.  I could never get a "believable" vibrato out of a bar.  Finger vibrato always sounded better to my ears...

I actually disliked Teles for many years - most of my playing career (if you can call it that). It wasn't until I built a Warmoth carved top for somebody here with a proper neck, bridge and pickups that I changed my mind. Never wanted to ship it. Wanted to keep it. Lovely instrument. Now I have 4 of them and am debating a 5th. It's a great design.

I know what you mean about the trem, though. For a long time, I figured better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. But, if you aren't gonna use the thing, it's really a pain in the shorts. So, about half my guitars now are hardtails.

I felt the same way for a long long time, the tele was never even on my radar. Then I seen a tele here on the UW that just blew me away and that's what spawned the idea for my spalted tele, and in the midst of building that one I bought my Cherrywood tele. And absolutely love both of them of which I must say both HAVE Floyds.... :headbang1:

What is it with you and Floyds? Is he your long-lost uncle or something?  :laughing7:

I wish he was...It's just from a love of 80's metal and hair bands... :icon_biggrin:

Yeah. I gots to thinking about my graphtech saddles and wilky and whatnot. i might just take all my guitars apart and put em in a bag and shake it up. I might as well unblock the wilky, but the graphtechs dont make sense on it.  I think I need one more guitar to make all the parts make sense.

Swarfrat, I have been thinking about doing the same thing.  Taking a strat neck off my old tele, get a new tele conversion neck (which I love playing in standard tuning with heavier strings).  But then I will have a strat neck without a home.  I want to swap bridges on my teles so my old tele has the piezo in it and get another Scatozi bridge with Graphtech saddles for my carved top tele.  It never ends...I just can't leave well enough alone...lol.

Looks like a lovely guitar! :)

I did a tru oil finish on string through bass and I just oiled it and tried not to get too much build up, but you will get it, and its easy to scrape out. Unlike when I got E-Poxy in it, that took some getting out!

Update, I just sold these wonderful pieces to a rather nice fella in Hamilton.  I hope he has the time (that I didn't) to finish the job.

The concept of this build is not dead.  I ordered all finished parts from Warmoth once I realized I was never going to get the time to finish it.

Here is the new build thread:

Sorry to resurrect a zombie thread.  I didn't want to leave it unfinished.  I sent the buyer a link to this thread.  Perhaps he will post updates...
