Warmoth Neck Satin Finish

Hi, anybody has a satin finished one piece maple neck ? I ordered one from Warmoth and I have just received it. The finish must be so thin that I even start to doubt if it has really been finished. Any experience with Warmoth’s satin finish ? Or how can I be sure it has been finished ? Thanks.

Is there a coloured dot on the heel?
That will denote it has been finished.

I don't have a one piece satin finished neck but do have a maple/ebony that has a satin finish on the back and that is how they appear.

My first warmoth neck was satin and I felt the same as you. I was playing a fender guitar with polyurethane satin finish neck at that time and I thought the warmoth satin finish neck would be similar, but no.

Also, the edges weren't rounded as fender necks, and frets weren't leveled, and I've been uncomfortable with it for a while. Once I got some money, I ordered a new, this time unfinished, so I could ask a local luthier to round the edges, level the frets properly, and apply the same finish I was expecting on my first neck.

I love warmoth bodies, but for necks, I think it's better ordering them unfinished.

I had the same experience with my standard 5 bass maple/maple neck in satin finish. There is a dot on the heel to indicate that it has been finished. It feels like there is no finish.

Thanks everybody. Yes, it does have a sticker in the heel so I'll have to assume it does have a finish. It doesn't feel bad to be honest, it does feel pretty fast. But I was worried if it was really finished or if I better apply a finish.

One has to remember that Fender is famous for encasing their guitars in plastic. I've had to remove the finish from a couple of fenders and it was between a 64th and over a 32nd of an inch thick. some spots more than that. Any guitar with a thin finish would feel strange compared to that. A lot of the manufacturers are discovering that thin and hard is the way to go on finish. The idea of finish is to protect the guitar from the elements and moisture, and to a smaller extent from bumps and bruises. The finish isn't there to provide crash test capability....  :laughing7:
