I wouldn't worry about what makes G. E. Smith happy. Do what makes you happy. That's what counts. You're not G. E. Smith.
I'm not trying to take anything away from the man. I'm sure he's a discerning player, and certainly highly talented. But, did you ever notice how many different guitars he plays? While he might have a preference, he certainly doesn't seem to be married to any particular profile. You'll notice that great players are often that way. They're good because they practice their asses off, not because they play any particular instrument. A good player can make anything sound good, often to our embarrassment and dismay.
