Please move this thread if I have it in the wrong place.

Someone wants me to put a 4-bolt Warmoth Jazz neck on a 3-bolt MIJ Jazz Bass. I have both in hand.

I don't think there's a problem (aside from potential neck pocket tweaks, though I doubt that), but I wanted to ask first. I intend to just use the 4-hole plate to mark the holes front and back and go from there.

i can't see any problems. my only question was whether you were going the 3 bolt or 4 bolt direction, but it sounds like you've decided on the 4 bolt (the better and more reliable choice i think).

It's been a while since I've looked at three bolt guitars, but I think that the third hole ends up being exposed because the 4 bolt plate is not quite long enough

The 4-bolt is necessary since the 3rd hole would put the screw into the truss rod.

Speaking of which, what size id W's hex nut? I can't find one to fit, and I've got a zillion of them.

The owner of the bass realizes that there may be aesthetic concessions. Considering what I'm charging him ($0.00), he ought not complain. Especially since someone else he consulted was going to use the 3rd hole.

That's not a euphemism, though from the owner's standpoint, to do so would result in much the same sensation, I imagine...

The W guitar neck plate I had laying around is just a bit too wide. If it were mine, I'd ream the front two holes off-center, but it's not mine. Is that a guitar/bass thing (I'd think Leo would prefer the cheaper uniformity) or an MIJ/Warmoth issue?

Hmm... Neck ferrules? Though I hate trying to put ferrule recesses into pre-drilled holes @ size. I have access to a drill press, but it's not so great.
