I've only used/owned the original Dunlop Crybaby, and just to avoid being a "fan boy" I'm steering clear of the Hammet, despite the good reviews.
I'm very interested in the Jerry Cantrell as I love the way he uses the wah so much more expressively than Hammet.
I like the switchless feature of the Morely Bad Horsie wah, but hate the latency in how long it takes to engage when rocked past the switching point.
I've heard that loads of people love the Clyde McCoy, but I'm really wanting details as to why people select one wah pedal over another.
If you vote "Other" please list which model you were referring to and why.

Let the discussions begin.

I'm a fan of the Dunlop Crybaby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal, simply because it's adjustable and allows you to get a variety of wah sounds while still having the awesome original Crybaby sounds. It seriously is like the Swiss Army knife of wah pedals.

^^ What he said.  And - I can't stand KH's use of the wah.  If there was ever an unmusical way to solo with one, he's got that down.

I agree, and for that reason alone, I shun his siggy, but loads of dudes at the ESP forum (Fanboys) rave about it despite his mis-use of it.  Shouldn't surprise me.

I'm really interested in the Cantrell & the McCoy.

The original Budda, I have it 12 years. Sounds like a Vox without the noise and the screeching highs. Round, sweet sound and lots of wah!

Morley Bad Horsie II

Controlable frequency is nice.

BTW, there are adjustments inside that control off/on latency.  :icon_thumright:

Interesting, did not know that.  That may give cause for reconsideration.  I hate rocking forward to hit the switch, and I hate the risk of leaving it on when I thought I switched it off.

The only wah I owned was a big turd.  Morley (at the time they may have only had 1 model) mid 1990s.
I was never impressed by the tone and, despite a minimal amount of effort, couldn't get the darned thing not to squeak with use.

Someday I may get another. I'd lean towards a BYOC model.  Adjustments may save the pedal more than just an on/off switch.

Right on, brothah.  But it if sounds good, I'd rock one at the risk of ridicule.  Sort of like owning a Bonnie Rait strat or admitting that you like Michael Bolton's guitarist's tone.  :icon_biggrin:

For my purposes, the Ibby Weeping Demon works pretty well. Not exactly "vintage" spec, but it's very mod-able, so I can use it on both bass and guitar...

And yeah, the only guy in 'Tallica that could ever use a wah properly was Burton...

I got an RMC 3 for a Birthday present from the parents a while back.  It is very adjustable, and sounds great.  It is sort of overwhelming to begin with, there are a lot of adjustments.  Mr. Teese replies to emails very fast, and can narrow down what you are looking to get quite well.  There is a newer version of it that makes adjustments easier.  It does cost a minor fortune, but it is very nice.

Come now, Bonnie at least plays the guitar herself!  And apart from the '70's-porno CBS headstock, it's an attractive axe, too.

But I have no use for the wah, in almost every circumstance - and in particular, Kirk Hammett should be bludgeoned about the head and neck with his wah pedal.

I used to like the weeping demon.  But after a year, it broke.  I've heard similar things from other weeping demon users.  I sat in Guitar Center for over an hour trying the Kirk Hammett, Jerry Cantrell, Slash, Dimabag, and the weeping demon.  I was expecting to dislike the KH one the most for the reasons stated above.  I liked that one the most.  It is a nice darker wah.  I could get similar tones from the demon, until it broke.  I hated the Dimebag wah - to much top end, it just hurt your ears.  Cantrell was close to the KH.

They made more than one. In fact, by the '90s they had a whole line of pedals built into that chassis style. I had one in the '70s, and it was a beast. They were even more robust than the '90s models. I mean, you could use that thing as a murder weapon, like a heavy-duty metal version of an old dial-up telephone from the '50s. Thing must've weighed 12 pounds, and had a line cord on it that would have been suitable for table saw duty.

But, I had the same problem you describe - the tone was kukka. It went from ice pick in the ear to filtering out everything above about 41hz. Kick the treadle back and it was almost like you'd turned your guitar's volume down to 2, because there was nothing left. Then, it had a lotta throw to it. Felt like about 30 degrees or so, which made controlling it a pretty ambitious activity.

Dunno what ever happened to that thing. Probably buried it with the 1st wife I killed with it sold it to an up-and-coming jukebox hero.
