Yesterday a buddy of mine and I recorded this original, "Voodoo Black Magic."  I did all the guitars/bass, while he took care of the vox and some of the drum machine beat modifications...

He's going to redo the lyrics, as they lack some much-needed "punch," but considering he had a headache/stomachache from bad beer (Miller Lite), plus he's allergic to cats (I have 4 of them...), it's a pretty good performance.

Once he redoes his vox, we'll go ahead and clean it up, master it, and we'll be good to go!  So, here it is..."Voodoo Black Magic."

Well done for managing to stay on U.G., I got banned many times and eventually gave up.

Thanks!  I got a call today from Dave and he'd been working on redoing the vox all morning.  While they still need some touching up, the new recording is much improved!  I wasn't supposed to allow anyone to hear that last one...  :laughing7:

Here it is!  While it's still not finished, it's VERY MUCH improved!  :party07:

I like it a lot. It has a real old school Metallica vibe about it. Pretty heavy too  :headbang:

Opinions on the special effects behind the vocals?  I'm on the fence about whether they're overkill...
 
They are pretty good. Well suited to the type of music. I wouldn't go adding any more, but that's up to you.  :icon_thumright:

Maybe I'm just really over-analyzing and over-critiquing the whole thing...  :icon_scratch:
 
Soudns great, but I would tone the reverb behind the vocals down just a touch. It sounds as if he's missing the downbeat but it's just that there's so much reverb.

Nice track overall though. I really like it.
 
Well, I like it... But I agree with a tad less effect on voice... May be a personal preference, but I think he should make the vocals a little more "hard", edger... Don't know how it's said in english, basically not so clean, more distortioned... But it's nice as it is!

He said he's still working on it, and because he was doing it with some crappy equipment or something, there was a delay in some of the effects.  He'd recently moved out of his apartment into a new place, and most of his equipment is in storage.  He said he's going to be working on that issue.

Could you elaborate?  Are the vocals not aggressive or angry enough?  Do you think they need more "punch" or "drive" behind them?

It's been pretty touch-and-go for ever since I signed up. I'm sure I'll be banned by the end of the year  :laughing11:

I haven't had any issues on U.G., but then again, I don't post in the forums, all I do is post music and split.

I think it need more drive and more agression... He seems "cool" singing it...

Okay, I'll relay the info and see what he decides.  He seemed pretty happy with the outcome of most of it, but there's nothing wrong with some experimentation!
