Ok. I have a couple of questions about this thing. I've been doing some searches, but I can't really find anything that can answer my question. I know this is a super noob question, but what the ass (to replace 'hell') is a Variax guitar? How does it work? Where are the pickups? Will it work with a normal amp? The look is interesting enough for me to consider building one when the time comes, but I'm still trying to figure out how it all works. How much work is it to keep it all up? Is it just as simple as having any other guitar, or will I need to buy everything in the world to fully use it

A Variax guitar is a Line 6 modeling guitar, like their amps...it gives you different "voices" based on vintage guitars-Strats, Les Pauls, etc, and is digitally (software) driven. As far as I know, they don't have regular pickups, but will work with a normal amp. If you want to build one, you'll need the guts from an existing Variax.

Ok I already got the part about the model. I just looked here: http://www.guitaristjeffmiller.com/guitars.htm and thought about how it would all work out. I'm a tech head, but I'm a lazy one. Looks like it would require more work than I'm willing to commit to in an apartment at this time. It looks pretty awesome though. Just to have a guitar that looks like the pickups were forgotten in the guitar builder's awesome guitar equation. Lol. If anything I'll just have to buy one, play with it for a few weeks, and take it apart for the build after I get my hands dirty and build a few guitars. I haven't built one yet, but I've fixed a few guitars and taken others apart. Not really a problem in that area. The most trouble I'd have is the painting/finishing part... and that's only because I haven't really found anything that'll tell me what I need other than the kit I found on stewmac.com with a tutorial on the page.
