Hello,

I was hoping one of you clever guys could help me work out what to do.

I have just received a unfinished alder body from warmoth.

The neck pocket has strands of wood (looks like patchy grass).
Anyone know what the best way is to remove it?

Thanks,
Ben

i thought all warmoth bodies were sanded to a specific grit (pretty much ready for sealer)...i haven't seen anything like that before from warmoth...you should send an email out to the sales dept (attach pic).  they fill fix you up...cheers!

ps. i would think that you want to maximize the wood to wood contact surface in the neck pocket, so that stuff has to go!  good luck!

I think all my basswood pockets have looked like that.

I use a exacto knife to get rid of "the corner strands" and a fine tooth file to smooth the area down.

The neck pockets are left unsanded and unfinished.  Your (the royal your) other guitars are most likely like that too, but they've had a neck pressing them down.  I'd leave it, and I certainly wouldn't take any tools to it.  If it really bothers you, use some duct tape as a lint roller and see if anything comes up.  It's probably one of those things that's always been that way you've never noticed or known about.  This guitar will have a neck?

Thanks guys!

I emailed Ronnie at Warmoth and he said that it quite normal for an unfinished body. His suggested fix is to use a low grade sand paper to gentle remove the strands.

Thanks!
