Ukulele Strings

I have been wanting a ukulele for quite some time.  Last night I realized the perfect level of Foster's and ukulele pricing that resulted in my pulling the trigger.
I picked up an Eddy Finn tenor ukulele with solid black acacia top, back, and sides.  Should be a good Uke, but having never purchased ukulele strings, I need some direction.

The major players in ukulele strings that I am seeing are Aquila, D'Addario, and Martin.  As with guitar strings, there is a lot of hype going on with ukulele strings.
Some sets have a wound string, either the G or C in the sets I am finding.

The comments from the manufacturer of the Aquila sets with a wound G string suggest a person should purchase 3 or 4 extra single wound G strings because the wound string is only good for 1 to 2 weeks.
Sounds like wacky hype to me  :toothy12:

Anyway, are there any Uke players out there with suggestions for strings?

My niece has a nylon Ukelele.  I recently discovered the tuning style on the strings is quite different from guitars, and that with a few minutes of boredom you can play half of eruption on one.

I was going to say "needs a floyd", but.. apparently a 6 hole is good enough for that.

I'm really not a Floyd type of guy, but how about a Uke with a Bigsby :dontknow:

Black Dog - I am not a ukulele player, but I checked with a couple of friends from Hawaii that play professionally. They recommended either of the following strings:
  • Aquila "White strings" (made in Italy)
  • Kamaka (a Hawaiian company)
Both of them actually use Kamaka strings on their tenors. Hope this helps.

Hey Ddbltrbl,

Thanks for going out of your way to get me a string recommendation.  Greatly appreciated :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
I ordered a set of the Aquila White strings and the Kamaka strings.
I will give them both a try, but if your friends play professionally and both use the Kamaka, it is probably for a good reason!
Thanks again and  :rock-on:

It was no trouble, they're close friends and easy to get hold of.
I think the reason they use Kamaka strings versus the Aquila's is simply because they're made locally.
Hope they work out for you.
