Tremolo studs - before or after

I have an unfinished, except for shellac sealer, alder body that has holes for 9.5mm stud inserts. I need to hog the holes out for 9.9 stud inserts.

My question is do this and
A) drill the larger hole and insert studs before paint
B) drill the larger holes but don't insert the studs till after paint

I drilled the holes out to 9.5mm and plan to wait until after paint to install the inserts. Thanks for the replies.
