Traditional Kluson tuner bushing removal

Hi, Gang -

I have a Strat-style neck I recently acquired and it's got traditional Kluson tuners installed. The headstock face is finished but the remainder is bare or has a very light finish. I want to give it an all-over, uniform finish,  Accordingly, I need to get the bushings out without damaging the neck.  A brief tap from the backside of the headstock with a punch is not yielding results, and before I apply more brute force I figured I'd check in with the Unofficial Warmoth hive mind for some advice.

So:  Thoughts, dudes?

This is similar to how I have done this job in the past.

Exactly. That has been my method for almost 40 years. Works well, and doesn't damage the guitar.

In light of some of the stories we're hearing lately about roasted Maple, that could be a dangerous thing to do. Although, since roasted Maple necks are a relatively recent neck wood, there probably aren't many necks out there using that wood that have ancient, obsolete, garbage tuners on them.

The method in that video worked perfectly, mission accomplished.  Thank you, Stratamania.
