top wood maple ,back wood Mahogany

Yes, that's pretty common. My current Warmoth project is just like that.

But, many people have, and many manufacturers do. With some guitars, such as Les Pauls and other carved-tops, it's almost standard. Warmoth can make any of their bodies that way, if you'd like to save the trouble and get professional results right out of the box.
