Tool for avoiding trem spring adjustment gash

I made this ... might save some heartache, though if you do gash it, that's character.  I bought a thick rubber stair tread at home depot, about $3 then cut it with a pair of shears.

Good idea, should help no matter what kind of work your doing on the trem guts. Just watch you don't get any reaction with the finish, I doubt it will but you never know.
 
No problem on poly or oil finishes that are cured.  Never used it on nitro or Shellac, so can't say on those.
