Tonally Center Gecko 6 question?

I am looking to build another Gecko 6. What I am looking for is a tonally centered body and neck. By this I mean one that's not bright or dark, but equal across the sound spectrum. I know adding electronics and such I can achieve that. But that's not what I am looking for. I would like to achieve a tonally centered bass before adding the electronics. Is this a doable idea or should I scrap the idea and build a Gecko 6 without worrying about the tonally centered idea? Any input from you all would be great. Thanks

Alder body, Canary neck, your choice of fretboard. Lower mass bridge.

Thank You line6man for your input. Interesting choices of wood. I am interested in knowing why you didn't choose a fretboard? I have always heard that the fret board lends directly to the tone of the instrument. Once again Thank You

Fretboards do not contribute significantly to tone. But then again, it depends who you ask.

Line6man I agree with your statement. But I do know that it does have some effect on the tone. Just how much is really debatable. I am still several weeks away on my calling the order in. So I will continue my quest. Although I have to be honest with you, Alder body will not be used. I just have a sore spot for that wood. Don't know why, just not a considered choice for me. Alder has been a mainstay in guitar and bass luthiery for 60+ years because it is inexpensive, plentiful, stable, workable, and tonally neutral.

Totally agree with your Alder statement. I will never discount alder for any reason. I own several guitars and basses made out of Alder. Just not what I am going for on this build. But I agree its everything you describe and then some. The fact that it is tonally neutral I Like. I Thank You for pointing that out. That's one fact I wasn't totally aware of. Once again line6man, you are a great help here. I am hoping that I can call on you in the very near future as I start this build process. I will list the wood choices I am thinking about in the next several days and the reasoning behind my thinking. I would like your response on them if you don't mind. Once again Thank You.
