Time for a new song?

Have we learned anything yet kids...?  Don't take you prized guitars flying, I don't care even if it is called a Flying V...

I remember cringing when I read a tweet from St. Vincent that said something along the lines of "Oh Delta (or what ever airline it was), you broke my guitar for sport."  I don't know why baggage handlers have so much rage towards guitars.

I was checking ebay to see what a '65 335 was really worth and found this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Gibson-Gold-Crest-Brazilian-Rosewood-ES-335-355-Johnny-Smith-Pickups-/181056671601?pt=Guitar&hash=item2a27d18f71

Holy Moly!!! Never seen the likes of a Rosewood 335 before, anybody else???

Rosewood top on a 69 seems rather anachronistic. Anyone else wondering if this was pulled out from under the same bed that the rest of the newly discovered vintage instruments come from?

I would never fly with one of my guitars unless it was in the cabin with me.

Jack, I have never seen one of those. I have no idea of the worth, desirability, collectability, but it is definitely interesting.

They were apparently built from 1969-1971, but during that time period I lived in music stores/pawn shops; I'd never heard of or seen one before... If my MegaMillions investment pays off tonite, that's the first thing I'm buying...

He was attempting to fly with the guitar in the cabin and was refused.

Must admit why the hell is it in the original case not a flight case or hard case? They wouldn't have got jammed like that, and even if they did the guitar would've been safe and sound i bet :/ Surely one has been built that would fit a guitar like that...

Realise the baggage handlers are morons for not stopping it getting trapped but still... Could've been prevented for likely less than a tenth of the guitars value.

ATA cases might be more robust, but in this case I think it just means whenever the energy require to destroy the case was met, the resulting pieces of the guitar would have been that much smaller.

True must admit i didn't take that into consideration about taking it into the cabin.

Didn't know that about ATA cases either, but does make sense given slight knowledge of how stuff breaks haha.

Had been pissed off at another forum having a bitch contest over straight vs angled headstocks, and half of the ones that say they break too easily i've seen post that they just chuck there guitar into back of van/car without a case. i mean come on o.O. ...

I was implying the baggage handlers are idiots more for the most part. But hey ho, done now. Maybe the airline wont be a whiny ass and actually pay him the damage they caused.

A couple things to consider. First, they don't hire rocket scientists to move cargo around. It's a low-paying grunt job that attracts those with more brawn than brains to sell. Secondly, from the company's point of view it's often less expensive to pay for mistakes than it is to pay for their prevention.

Once again Your points are completely valid, Apologies if my previous comments offended anyone. Not my intention, just was in BAD mood =/. Yeah all points consider just a bad accident i guess. Could've been prevented, wouldn't be prevented for costs sake yada yada.

This is what happens when you hire a bass player :icon_jokercolor:

And your songs don't have any balls if you don't So nehhhhh  :evil4:

If that guitar was so damn valuable, don't travel with it.  I blame him as much as the airline.  As much as I love my guitars and basses, they are all replaceable and have a dollar value.

It will effect the value, but it seems the damage is repairable, whereas the case is not. I'd say the case did it's job.  It's hard enough for 50 year old musicians to make the rounds in comfort.  I bet his honest friends will issue an I told you so or two.

How is this the baggage handlers' fault?  It's not in their hands while in the system.  DFW's Terminal D has 11 miles of conveyors.  Did they over fill or improperly load it?  Seems more like conveyor system or elevator design flaw, maybe even maintenance issue if anything.
