Just received my "new to me" neck from Jayswear.....thanks man :icon_thumright: I'm planning on using it on my next build but I had to string it up and play it. First......I LOVE the superwide neck.....fits me perfect! I did the initial setup on the neck and I'll tweak it as it settles in. I wasn't sure how a maple neck and fretboard would look on old Driftwood but I think it looks pretty good. I'm thinking about gettting a birdseye maple pickguard just to see how that will look. The maple is a lot brighter than the wenge/ebony so I think I'm going to make a black buffalo horn nut for the maple neck to mellow the tone just a tad. Here are a few pics I snapped tonight......I had to share. Again....THANKS JAY!

Not sure if I like the maple with the body/pickguard combo.
Probably not as important as how it plays though.

Gonna get a birdseye maple pickguard and see how that looks. BUT.....this neck is going on my next build, not staying on this guitar. Mainly "testing" the neck in the meantime.

I liked it better with the other neck, and most I would pick the look of maple over ebony...

Looks are 95% of the equation...Because..."it's better to look good than to feel good".. :toothy12:

And still no neck plate....for shame...

The first pic is a little stark, but the 2nd pic doesn't look all that bad. If finished appropriately, a maple neck would not look bad on that guitar after all. It'd need to look appropriately relic'ed though.

its only temporary!!

DangerousR6, i know, i know......i never think about it since i never look at the back, send me a PM with payment instructions.

the ebony will be back on shortly, I'm also looking for a wenge pickguard

I know. I just meant that I was kind of surprised that I didn't think the maple neck would work at all.  But when I saw the pictures I realized that it COULD work, if the maple were appropriately dingy enough, it could actually work quite well.

swarfrat: I know what you mean :icon_biggrin: I've toyed with the idea of sanding the headstock and staining it to match the body....dont know yet. Depends what wood I plan for my next build.....it'll be close to this build.

the neck almost looks like a maple neck with birdseye fingerboard....probably not possible but there is some birdseye in the fretboard.

It really is like a maple neck with a birdseye fingerboard. The fingerboard has a lot of birdseye, but the neck back itself barely has any. There's ONE particular little birdseye figuring at the volute on the back. When I saw it I thought it was a little dent. I was like, "I can't believe I've dented this neck!" But it's just a tiny little optical illusion :icon_biggrin:

I thought that when you get a maple neck/fretboard it would be one piece like my original fender neck. I didn't know that warmoth makes them a two piece. I'll have to take some up close pics of the side of the neck, it looks like a "mild" birdseye maple fretboard.....love it! The more I play this neck the more I kick myself for not ordering the superwide in wenge/ebony for my original neck. It is so comfortable for my playing style and FINALLY HAVE ROOM.

looks like a birdseye fretbord on a maple neck.....you be the judge. Few pics of the front and back
