So the wait begins. Just ordered a left handed poplar strat body with a bath tub route and vintage bridge.

The neck is going to be canary/canary 6100 SS frets. 59 round back profile 1 11/16 nut width with a graph tech tusq nut and Sperzel locking tuners.

I am going to finish the body in a House of Kolor Custom tangerine orange finish with White ice pearl ( comes out transparent) to give it some serious visual pop.

Wemawkable! I don' even haf to leave my seet to go off-topic...:

yikes. :headbang:

I'm very curious about the different aspects of pearl.  I used a blue 'ghost pearl' over dead black, and it came out a very, very dark blue that pops in direct light to an electric blue metallic.

I'd love to try again with a finer pearl.  Like you're talking about, either a gold pearl over candy red or a white over this tangerine...

Warmoth's Candy Tangerine is pretty attractive. This is what mine looks like...

:icon_scratch:  That colours in the pickguard Cagey ?
Or
is that just white, looking orange in the refection  :dontknow:

I do like the Tangerine  :toothy10:

That's a Schaller part# 1305 0200, which they describe as a "Perfect replacement for Fender™* Stratocaster tremolos", although it's not. The stud spacing is that of a Floyd Rose, which is quite a ways off a standard Strat's spacing. It's a good replacement, due to the design, construction materials and the roller saddles, but it's not a drop-in fit if you already have a Strat.

They're nice parts. I actually like them even better than Wilkinsons, but they're hard to get here. Allparts sells them, but their pricing is outrageous. Thomann sells them in Europe more reasonably, but then we have to deal with shipping, time, import/export and currency issues. I have a couple of them (the one shown above and one on an upcoming Blue Ice Tele), but I got them on eBay from a spurious supplier. Can't count on them being available, and there's no variance in finish. Use chrome, of go without.

It's a Warmoth 'guard, doing the black/red/black sandwich. The red is sorta dark, so it's a nice accent to the tangerine.

Nice Cagey!

Thanks. It's a very nice guitar. But, somehow, I've never really bonded with it. Not sure why. Plays and sounds like a dream and I think it's attractive, but for some reason I just can't get next to it. So, it's ensconced in its case in the closet, just rotting. Should probably put it on eBaby. Surely somebody would think it's Just The Thing to make them happy.

I know what it is: too many knobs.

What's the bridge pickup, out of interest? I'm always intrigued to know what humbucker people match up with a pair of singles.

Yeah, it's over-controlled <grin>

It's been too long since I put the thing together for me to remember exactly, but I strongly suspect that's one of Mr. Duncan's JB Humbuckers. I'm a big fan of that design.

Good ol' JB. I've got one in my only HSS guitar too. It's a great rock pickup. I have a suspicion that a Custom 5 would probably work really well in a similar but different way. But it'll be a while before I get to test that hypothesis. Have you got the autosplit in the bridge/mid position?

I'm going to get a Custom Shop pickup soon oh my god this is such a thread hijack I'm going to stop here sorry everyone.

Well, that's just about the color I had in my head, even though we've (again!) hijacked another thread.  Maybe we can at least keep it to orange (tangerine) guitars.

No, I've never met a split pickup that I've liked. Too weak and too noisy. About the only good thing you can say about that trick is that it's "different". To me, that's not a qualification. I don't want different as much as I want good. If I think I might want a single coil sound, I install a pickup designed for the task.

Some HB's sound OK split in that position. If you get the winding and polarity right across the guitar then the split HB and the middle SC together will hum cancel. I think the JB is particularly bad at splitting though. The 59 is nice and so is the Pearly Gates. And most humbuckers sound OK split if you wire the split coil in series with another coil - your output matches up but you still get the two single coil sound.

Gotta agree with Cagey on that one. I've never heard a hmbkr that didn't sound just weak and toneless when split, BUT, we are talkin' about that most subjective of topics: Tone! So, when all is said and done, and the blood's been hosed off the deck, do what YOU want, by gum!!
