This body will be top-routed and fitted with a custom pickguard and Strat parts. Here's some photos and a link to the thread describing my plans for the project.

Pretty awesome! Can't wait to see Tonars work. I heard that the 54 Z-Caster is one bad motha... Shut yo mouth!

There has been a lot of really nice looking Swamp Ash recently.  Definitely makes me lean in that direction for the next build.

This is gonna be interesting.

I'm curious, though. If Warmoth didn't think a top route could work, what are you going to do differently?

What happened is that I sent a very rough sketch of how the top rout might look, and I think the reason they didn't want to do it is because of the randomness of the idea - it would have to be routed by hand instead of by computer, and they didn't really know exactly what the pickguard would look like over the rout. That's my assumption anyway.

But now I'm glad to be doing the rout myself because I wasn't even sure what I was asking them to do with it, and it was all based on that small mockup at the time. This way I can plan and measure everything a lot better right on the actual body, make changes as I go, and the money I would have spent on an extra custom fee will go towards a Tonar finish.

Why didn't you have Warmoth route the hole for the jack? It looks like it would fit okay...

I'm sure they would have done that on a Z-body, but because the edge of the pickguard will be a little more to the left, the jack rout will move over a little as well.

A little off topic I know, but I figured rather than start a whole new topic...

Input Jack options...
I thought I read an interview with Steve Vai showing off his signature "JEM" guitar from Ibanez with the inverted input jack.

Is that something that Ibanez could hold the rights to...like I have heard Music Man holds the rights to 4+2 eadstock tuner configurations?
Are there any plans in the future by Warmoth to offer additional input jack options (inverted input jacks)?

And when they miniaturize them and make them bi-directional, they call them "put-put jacks".

Thanks for the lesson, but you know what I mean. Vai's not the only one who trips his cables.
