Well done, birdseye comes up nicely with Tru oil...

I actually took it down a bit from the high-gloss look to more of a matte finish because I thought the feel was a bit tacky.

Yes it's getting a balance between the visual and how it feels.  If you applied quite a lot of Tru oil it can also take a while to completely stop giving off gas.

I find taking an old white cotton T shirt or similar and using that to give a final buffing gives a smooth good to play surface.

Finally decided to go with some alnico V strat pickups that I made myself for a more vintage look.

Scha-wing! That is one pretty Strat. I'm interested to know about the pickups that you wound. Wire gauge and turn count? How do they sound?

They definitely look nice.

What is the disposition of the Duncans you removed?

They were the Quarter-Pound set (all tapped).  I have them listed on Reverb.com.  Offers accepted.

They have alnico V magnets, 42 gauge formvar wire.  I think I wound the bridge to about 8K turns and it came in right at 6.01 Kohms.  The neck was at 5.72 and the mid at 5.77.  Don't remember how many turns I put on neck/middle (guess is going to be around 7300 to get approx 5.75 Kohms).  I made them to be a usual alnico V strat set.  Bright and snappy.  The bridge pickup has plenty of twang on the low-end with 10-42 string set.

I have been meaning to do clips, but don't have my setup put together yet.  I moved recently.

If you're asking how they sounded, they were darker than a usual strat pickup but I think they are one of the better uber-high-output pickups for strat in that they are still a true single-coil pickup and the strat tonality is still there.  I didn't run them tapped but I would guess they would be better that way if you were into a more versatile setup.
