I want to wood/direct mount some Strat PU's that do not have the 'bulge' in the bobbin. In looking at lots of pictures of direct mount Strat PU's a lot of them look unfinished or funny because of the size shape of the route. I have SD PU's that do not have the bulge in the bobbin and from some pictures i've seen that style of SC looks pretty good direct mounted.
What I'd like to get is a Strat route without the bulge. From what I found in reading I don't believe that a Tele route will work. What about an EMG route?
Update: found this on this site and it seem promising:

6) EMG's will fit into your guitar without any routing. As long as you're replacing a humbucker with a humbucker and a single coil with a single coil. EMG pickups are the same size as standard passive pickups.
