standard thickness of a les paul?

The body is 1 7/8", and the cap is 1/2". Of course, the cap gets carved, so it's thinner at the edges than the middle. So, around the outside where it's bound it's about 2" and around the bridge and pickups, total thickness should be about 2 3/8".

LP customs are about 2 inches (or a little less) "binding to binding" top to bottom.  Thicker in the middle of course.
The Standard is thinner!  Only about 1-3/4 or a little less.
The Studio is thinner yet!  Only about 1-5/8 or a little less.

The idea there was to make it impossible to counterfeit the more expensive model, by using the lesser model as a core for the build.

no, its not half an inch. its 7/8''.

I don't think so, but if you have some authoritative source that says they're putting nearly 1 inch thick caps on those guitars, I'd like to see it.
