SS P Bass....

So I see a short scale P bass body in stock, only 3 lb 7 oz, and I'm wondering, would it be worth it to have another body made, and chambered, and a light piece of stock picked out, for another $100-140 ($100 for being chambered, $40 to have them hand pick a lightweight piece) to save another 4-8 oz in weight?
Is that amount really going to make much difference in the greater scheme of things? Worth the extra $$$ in your opinion? I know in the end it's my call, but wondering what your thoughts are?

This is an investment in your own enjoyment. A good filter is if you might always wish you had spent the extra money for an option. If so, then order it. If not, then it doesn't need to be included.

Understood, and I know it's a roll of the dice to see what the weight may or may not turn out to be, and if it will be worth the slightly lighter weight. Lighter is always better I think, but will I notice a 1/4 lb or so?

1/4 lb is probably going to be noticeable but just how much is anybody's guess. When I shaved down an existing body to make my Bobber body, I took off 1/2 lb and that was definitely significant. Half that much would be felt if you could compare before and after but will it make a major difference? Probably if you end up close to the 8 oz mark it would.

I remember how much importance was being placed on even small weight losses in portable/laptop computers, and thinking it was too insignificant to be discussed. But, try carrying one through a couple miles of airport or factory space and those ounces quickly turned into pounds. It seems time multiplies weight.

And technology reduces it. I had one of these suitcase 'portables', 2x5.25" floppy drives, 20MB hard drive, PSU, CPU, Hercules video, CRT, and a full sized keyboard:

Try just carrying one of these across the room! On the bright side, it did have all the computing power of a 4.77MHz, Intel 8088!

I remember those things. Mine only had a 10MB HDD. $600 option. People thought I was nuts. Whaddaya gonna do with 10MB? Of course, back then you could fit the entire OS on a 360K floppy with room left over for a few games/utilities.

I remember those early computers. My fitst one was a new (1981) desktop model with two floppy drives, no HDD and cost about $2500. That included a keyboard, a green screen monitor and a printer (with a big box of lined, serrated, computer paper). What a step that was above the then state of the art main frame computers that were the size of a large desk.

I remember those questions too! "Who could possibly need a Western Digital, 20MB "HardCard", plugged directly into the ISA bus? That's more storage than you'll ever need!" But then again, 640K of ram was considered excessive by some too!

Anyway, apologies to Pirate for the hijack, not my intention, as usual.....  :tard:

Haha! These days half the toys on any random isle at Toys R Us have more computing power than that.*

But even more amazing to think about: that archaic technology sent men to the moon, and could again.**

*If Toys R Us were still in business, that is.
**If we were still going to the moon, that is.

Speaking of going to the moon ... the software is so complicated they are failing, or not spending the money where they should.

Speaking of CNN, my sons bought me one of these:

Like Staple's "Easy Button", but a lot more annoying to certain individuals. Available on Amazon:
