Trading my left-handed Weber Alnico Blue Dog speaker...

For a left-handed Agile AL2500 GoldTop with High Order AlNiCo-2 P90s.

I've heard lots about Agiles; the time has come to put one to the test.  BTW, Jeff (maker of HighOrder pickups - member on our "super-secret BBS") doesn't
do P90s currently, so this pair is one of the few pairs of P90s that he's made.

:laughing7: put that agile through it's paces and then let me know what you think of it... i've never been a huge les paul fan, but i feel incomplete without one since i got rid of mine. i'm thinking maybe a fretless agile LP. i've only heard good things about them, but never heard any real in depth reviews on them

Well, I owned a lefty Gibson "black beauty" custom LP (c. 1989) for about 15 years... of course, when I first got it I was drooling but
as I got older and wiser I realized that it was pretty much a dead hunk of heavy wood and a waste of $$$ (Norlin-era LPs suck, they really do).

So I do have plenty of Gibson LP experience to contrast this Agile with... and I'm just as curious (and have been) about Agile quality as yourself.

We shall see!

UPDATE:  it's here... but I'm not at home... yet.  Please leave a message after the beep.

Pics, dissertations (& prolly clips) to follow soon.

So what's up with that Agile???  I wanna hear about it.  Details, pics, and dissertations pleaz

Well I'll put it this way:

This is the 2500 series... I cannot speak for the higher or lower series.

The pickups smoke (they're HighOrder A2 P-90s - Jeff is a member on another board) - but those aren't stock.

The guitar itself?  Needs work.  LOL

Overall it's a decent guitar.

It is solid, heavy and definitely does not feel cheap.  Looks great.  However...

- needs a fret leveling
- has a plastic nut
- the bridge works fine but undoubtedly could use an upgrade for "pro" quality
- could use some higher quality pots

I wasn't expecting the 2nd coming... I'd say I got what I paid for.

I cannot recommend the 2500 line for a pro unless one was willing to put some work into it.

For a n00b, it'd be perfect.  But I'm not a n00b (27 years into it).

Chances are I will put those HighOrder P-90s into something Warmoth down the line, and
find some el-cheapo P-90s, slap em in and hang the guitar on the wall.

I could spend some $$$ and get it to be a good player, but not at the present.  Right now
I'm focused on my SG project.

I am still intrigued by their higher-up models (3000 prestige, 3100).

If you move to the 3000 and up series...

-Fret dress is less of an issue - they're hand-filed, and they're on an ebony 'board, which makes for a better base
-They have a black TUSQ (nylon/graphite) nut
-They still have a TOM bridge, which is a problem child regardless of its genre
-They use better pots

There are probably other differences, but those are significant.

Still, for the money, the 2500s are a helluva guitar. You can get one brand-spankin' new for $240.

If Gibson would price their guitars reasonably rather than like tickets to the International Space Station, they'd sell a helluva lot more of them and make a helluva lot more money. But, that's their business, not mine.

There is no such thing as Gibson... to me.

All it took was one LP Custom to convince myself that they're a load of hooey.

how's the gold-top look in person? in the pics it looks a little too mustard-y

if it looks nice and feels legit, i might snag one and put big-boy parts in it.  I sold my Gold-Top LP Classic to get an engagement ring for my wife, and though it was well worth it, i miss that thing...

This one (2500 series) looks aged (very slightly green-tinted).  There are comments that the 3000 series' Gold looks better.

I wouldn't bother anywyas unless you got a 3000 series or up.  They do have lefty P90 goldtops in the 3000 range, but I don't know about
lefty PAF-loaded ones.  Righties they do (of course).

The stock changes everyday, so gotta babysit the page (as a lefty):
