Space for fitting EMG Solderless plugs:

I've considered building a bass or guitar with EMG's in it, but I fear that there won't be an opening big enough to pull the plugs through from the pickup cavity to the rear cavity. Warmoth should be able to make an opening that's big enough to get the 3 plugs that come with a split-coil set like the 81TW through that hole.

I got the 81X & 85X solderless pup wires through the rear route channels just fine in my VIP.
Separating the connectors to the different black ones from the larger 1 white should make it fit (if those don't already slide through).
Having never had a TW I can't verify this though.

I've been thinking of building a Soloist with just an 89XR in the bridge. The plugs that come with the dual pickups are huge and the hole you're supposed to pull the plugs through are tiny.

Just use a Dremel  :icon_thumright:
Fits in the rear cavity or from the hum route.

I've done before, had to get a GK-3 pickup connector though there, which is much larger than the emg.

Also there is only about 1/4 - 1/2 inch between the hum rout and the rear control cavity.
So there isn't that much to take out.
I just enlarged the hole a bit from both sides.

"Just use a Dremel" implies a couple of things... while I may own some kind of record for how quickly and profoundly I violate Warmoth's warranties, I'm not sure that somebody who doesn't already have a Dremel and has used it on things other than their new $450 body should just rip right in there. There's almost a whole category of Ebay atrocities that come from a combination of power tools, rapid decisions and perhaps liquid courage.

That's why Warmoth should have a "huge EMG plug option".

You're probably right. The difference between drilling a hidden 3/8" or 1/8" hole one is a matter of which drill bit gets chucked in. No skin of their nose. May as well make it big enough for all eventualities and call it a love story.
