Do you guys use grain filler on koa?

If you want a perfectly smooth finish I would think so. I haven't worked with koa personally, but I'm pretty sure it has some fairly deep grain.

Well I know it's tighter than swamp ash, but not as tight as alder.

I plan to fill mine x2 with resin AND apply shellac with pumice. Experiments on scrap confirmed the necessity of this.
