I don't have any sound clips, but from my experience the difference in sound is pretty subtle compared to other factors. I had a MIM Jazz Deluxe (swamp ash body, maple/rosewood neck) with SD Classic Stacks, an Audere preamp, and Gotoh bridge. I built a 32" Warmoth J bass with alder body and canary/pau ferro neck, then put the same pickups, preamp, and bridge in/on it. The basic sound was VERY similar between these two basses, however the Warmoth neck has a much more even sound note-to-note. The Fender neck had dead spots here and there and the E string always seemed a little stronger than the rest. The Warmoth sounds just a touch more woody, but this could be due to the sub-4lb body or the difference in woods and neck construction. Overall, I feel like I gave up nothing going to the 32" scale, but I gained comfort (from the shorter scale and the lighter weight) and playability. I like it so much that I'm building a 32" scale MusicMan inspired bass now! :toothy11:
