It's like X-mas in May! I came home from work to find Santa Warmoth had left me a present under the floral patterned patio chair cushion! Everything I need except for the body, neck, and tuning pegs... You know, the minor stuff lol.

The Dinkycaster looks kinda like my brown guitar with longer horns and a baby-strat pick guard instead of one modeled in the style of a Music Man one. The One on my brown guitar was actually custom cut by a friend in high school that was a gifted art student from blank stock so it actually won't fit a real Music Man, just borrowed the "concept art". The body is a cross between a Mustang and an SG so when I saw Warmoth's Dinkycaster I've wanted to make 2 of them. I thought the "Blue Shell" pick guard stock looked pretty in pictures but wow! I'm in love.

"Version I" is going to be the unfinished roasted swamp ash body with a roasted maple neck w/ebony fretboard. I plan to spend a Sunday hand sanding them smooth when I get them. It's going to have a CBS style strat headstock, my last one as with everything fender is pulling right now even this life long fender fan boy is put off by it. "Version II" will be Swamp Ash with a Zebrawood top with a satin clear coat to protect the pretty and likely be rear routed with a meadowhawk birdseye maple neck and Ziricote fretboard to complement the Zebrawood wood with a satin finish on the maple.

I plan to use this one as a "test bed" for version II. I plan to get 2-3 more pick guards in this beautiful blue shell with different pick-up configurations. This is for to PAF style humbuckers to start. The next will be a single P-90, then 2 single coils and go from there. I want to get into modifying and eventually winding a few pick-ups myself out of fun. So while the rest of the guitar will be Warmoth goodness, the pickups will be Amazon specials I plan to tinker with and swap magnets or try different wirings/combinations with to have a test bed to practice on.

Every time I get parts or even plan out something I feel like a little kid on Christmas lol. One thing is for sure, I definitely need more blue shell pick guards lol. When I find that "perfect" combo I plan to have the Version II rear routed to fully show off the beautiful Zebrawood top. Stay tuned... Shellcaster out! 🐢🐢🐢🤣🤣🤣1000007513.jpg1000007514.jpg1000007515.jpg1000007516.jpg

Update! The hipshot enclosed direct drop locking "fender replacement" tuners got delivered today while I'm still stuck at work late. Also ordered the second blue shell pick plate for a 2 single coil build. I also put in the order for the body today finally!!! Roasted Swamp Ash Dinkycaster body. Neck is the final piece left and hopefully I'll get that order in next week!

I got the first pick plate all wired up in anticipation bbbbuuutttt am ashamed to post pictures because I ran out of kester solder and finished it with some garbage junk I had laying around that came with the iron... Not all solder is created equal just because it has "63 37" printed on it. I'm embarrassed and plan to pull it apart and redo it before I put my home work up here to be graded! So exciting!

Also, to pass the time waiting I ordered a couple custom bobbins from tone kraft and am going to try and wind a couple pick-ups for fun, totally by hand... Because I'm insane 🐢🐢🐢
