I've been thinking about building a Warmoth Tele and putting one of these in the bridge on a double bound swamp ash body with a maple/maple neck. and I've read alot of mixed reviews on the pickup and wondering if anyone here has any hands/ears on experience with them and could offer any advise thanks.

Kyle.

I have one.  I've had it in two different Teles and bought it in '95.  It isn't horrible, which is not exactly a ringing endorsement.  It doesn't voice well with the stock Tele neck pickup, I've had it in a '95 MIM Standard Tele and a '97 CIJ '72 Custom RI.  It's got more output than the stock single coil.  A normal humbucker sounds better.  It is a very compressed, thin, 80s type of sounding humbucker.

thanks for the response. thats very interesting because out of all of the reviews I've read, I didnt see any that said anything about it being a "compressed, thin, 80's sounding" humbucker. I'll have to give this some thought.

Well, the one I have is a bit older and doesn't look like that one.  It's four conductor, but I'm not using a mini-toggle to split it.  I have the white and red wires soldered together, with the black and green being the leads, so it's wired correctly.  It's in a basswood body and has a thick maple neck on it, but it sounded the same in an Alder body.

As you can see, the shape is slightly different.  They may have redesigned it, as I do have an older one.  I'm not unhappy with it (it's been in this guitar for 12 years!), but it is no substitute for a full-sized humbucker.

You'll get a better selection from DiMarzio.  I have a Tele that I chose a Tone Zone T in, and am still trying to find the right Strat sized pickup for the neck. The Tone Zone T sounds great, btw.

The Tone Zone T sounds great, btw.  I had another Strat with Hot Rails in the bridge, Cool Rails in the neck, and a Vintage Rails in the middle.  I ultimately switched these out for a DiMarzio Air Norton S in the neck, a Fast Track 1 in the middle, and a Fast Track 2 in the bridge.  I am much happierl with the sound.
