Set-Neck Spraying Jig?

So I think I've come up with an effective way of spraying a set-neck that has been glued in already.
Let me know what you think

It's a horizontal jig, with a slight angle so you can get at the top and back.
Using an eyelet in the end of the body, and one of your tuning holes, it sits on dowels with a slight taper.

I think it would work... I would use some sort of coating on the dowels so the lacquer doesn't seal the dowel to the guitar.
Let me know if I'm missing anything major here.

I think you may have issues getting finish around the tuner holes. I have always hung my set necks up and down when spraying.

oh I wasn't even thinking of that.
I guess I just have to find a coat hanger or two  :laughing7:
the stewmac spraying hangers are a bit pricey for what it is, plus shipping to canada is around $20 usually

You can use an eyelet from the hardware store screwed into the strap button hole, and a wire coat hanger suspended from a closet dowel.  Simple simon.

Here's PRS's solution - it's very nearly as ghetto as what I just described.

that gives me a similar idea,
use the eyelet on the end, and tie a rope to that, and at the other end, tie a loop. I'm pretty good at tying knots, not so much with metal though..

Single core cable as used in your mains wiring is quite useful to hook stuff up as you can twist it effectively and shape how it curves.

See last picture of this post.

That's also a great idea. It's good to know that there's many ways to do something, of one method fails  :laughing7:

I used a coat hanger in the tuner hole.  It does make bursting a little more difficult since I prefer to have the body flat when spraying a burst.    I usually insert the hanger from the back of the neck and will change the hole used in between coats.

if it's an explorer made of mahogany with a mahogany neck and a maple cap, would a coat hanger be able to support it?

Yea sure - it's pretty strong wire.  But as Stratamania said using a strand of 14 gua 'mains' cable (that's house wiring cable for us here in NA) will hold it no problem.

good to know, my mother is management at a cable tv equipment distributor, and theres miles of wire about that gauge there  :laughing7:
