As some of you guys know, I spend a lot of time in the Pickups & Electronics section of TalkBass, and I've done many wiring diagrams for various things.
I made this coil configuration diagram of how to do various switching options for dual-coil pickups, and I thought some guys on this forum might find it useful.

Hey i dont know if you do wiring schematics, but you dont happen to have one that involves say a music man with single coil p bass, the old style ones, two volume one tone one jack. or something along the lines of a music man with a powerbucker, two volume one tone one jack.
Thanks, new here so trying to get together information for first build, which will hopefully happen sometime from now till next summer depending on money, and free time from university/college as i believe it is called in america.

I can draw you one for whatever you need, but that sounds like standard Jazz bass wiring if you substitute the pickups.

A MM pickup is generally wired with the coils in parallel, so combine the north and south coil + leads as the pickup's hot, and the north and south coil - leads as the pickup's ground.

Here is Seymour Duncan's diagram for standard Jazz bass wiring:

I keep my collection of diagrams here:

oh thanks, Any idea how to tel what leads are what? or will it say?

The single coil P *should* have a black lead and a white lead, or maybe yellow instead of white.
The black will be the ground and the white will be the hot.

As far as the MM pickup, every manufacturer has a different color code system.
If you know what brand of pickup you are going to buy, I can probably look into it for you.

You will want to make sure that your two pickups are in phase with each other though, because sometimes when you mix pickups, they can end up on opposite phases depending on which way the manufacturers wound them.
If you get a thin and nasally sound when both pickups are at a matched volume, invert the black and white leads on the single coil P. That should solve the issue if they are out of phase.

thanks for those diagrams.  what do you call and where do you buy the type #1 DPDT?

There isn't a type number 1 listed above, they are just wiring options.

DPDT can be obtained as separate switches or as part of a push-pull pot.
