As seen many great painting works by “ Great ape“, I always wanted to paint something on the guitar. So the lune new years is the only chance I have the free time to do it .

There are not many photos of Robert Johnson, most iconic one is this one use of his album cover. To proficient hand drawing skills on his image and practice first, I started with doing some sketch.

details step by step time lapse on this YouTube video :

Your work is outstanding. Seeing it come together on the video helps me appreciate the artwork even more. :icon_thumright:

I look forward to progress shots as assembly happens.

Excellent piece of work! Loved the video! I had no idea there was that much layering involved in that sort of thing. When it started out, I thought "how in the world is that gonna end up right?" But, it did.

As for pickguard choices, as much as I like pearlized 'guards, I think you have to be careful not to let anything draw the eye away from that artwork. It would be too busy. So, to me, that says no (or very demure) colors and no textures. In fact, I might not even want it glossy. I'd be looking at a satin cream, parchment or black, no sandwich. Same with the fretboard. If ever there was a call for jet black Ebony, this is it.

Of course, you're clearly the artist here, so pay no attention to the man behind the rhetoric  :icon_biggrin:

thanks all for your encouragement.

Cagey, you right about not draw the eye away from that artwork, I think about something dark or black. or maybe some Ebony or wood can set a side of the earth tone of drawing. The only problem is can't spend too many $ on it,

why this project come up is that I haven't been working for many months as injuries, need to prohibit myself buying any new body or neck, finish what in hand first.

I can try to find some wood then go to factory CNC it, but that will take time.

About drawing layers, I used to draw on color texture papers in school years, to save times no need to draw the background, on wood it needs to know in mind, laying wet color on wood first appearance dark and dull but will get lighter and brighter after that layer dry.

I saw the thread this morning but just now got some time to watch the video. Very good work.

The picture of Robert Johnson would look good on the back. For the pickguard, something along the lines of the Van Gogh pickguard you showed but in complementary browns etc to the painting might look very good without standing out compared to the painting.

Tremendous work, Hendrix.  Glad to see you're getting some creative work done despite your recent injury.  Here's hoping you heal completely soon.

Hendrix, that's some beautiful work! Like Cagey said, something demure for the pickguard, I think flat black would be an excellent choice. That would really let your artistry show take center stage.  :headbang:

I almost think having Tonar do his magic on it to preserve the finish & then put a clear plastic pickguard on it that you can get from Stew Mac would let you add even more detail into the pickguard area.

I find that I do have a black pickguard I order some time ago, planning to paint something on it. ( guessing what this pickguard going to build for  )  maybe trying Photoshop see the effect first like Van Gogh pickguard or not.

the neck is Vintage Tint Gloss Maple Fretboard, as that what I got in hand already.

I am sure you are going to do a fine job...

Perhaps if the image continued slightly into the pickguard and then the colors became more like the Van Gogh swirls that might work.

The yellow in the crossroads works well with the vintage tint neck. Looking forward to seeing what you do for the pickguard.

After doing this video ( which is I use Final Cut Pro X for the first time, I use Adobe Pr usually) I try to do more video.

try to finish a fret end dressing video with footage I shortened a few years ago.

like digging a hole for myself    :-\ only finish 80% after weekends, and I busy on something else now :sad1:

I want to keep it simple and has a strat look too.

so I decided to go for black with a bit more on crossroads theme like this PS  :

That's a good way to keep the expanse of black from taking over. Nice choice, there.
