Replacing a Warmoth-installed Earvana nut?

I'm about to buy a neck out of the showcase, and I'm a little confused on the Earvana nut option.  Last time I bought a neck, they weren't able to offer these.  When I look at the details, it mentions that the nut slot has to be widened to 1/4" to accommodate the Earvana, and that the nut slot has to be filled and re-cut if you want to go back to a regular nut. 

What happens if it needs replaced and I want to use another Earvana nut?  The drop-in replacements won't work because they're designed for a 1/8" nut slot.  Earvana does make an LSR replacement nut that is the same size as the slot Warmoth cuts for a factory Earvana install.  Does anyone know if Warmoth widens the slot toward the frets or toward the headstock?  I want to make sure that I don't pick an option that would require hacking up the neck if the nut ever needs replaced.  I've contacted Warmoth with questions about this, but I think they're a little confused by what I'm asking.  Has anyone ever had to replace a factory Earvana on their neck?  Thanks.

The LSR type earvana is not really an LSR nut which you probably spotted but one that fits into a slot previously occupied by an LSR nut. To fit an LSR nut into a guitar with a normal nut slot it has to be widened towards the fretboard in the direction of the bridge. This would mean the edge of the nut is closer to the first fret.

I just looked at my Earvana fitted Warmoth, and the edge of the nut is indeed closer to the first fret than a normal nut. And the Earvana LSR nut looks similar to the one in my Warmoth. How the system works it would have to be like that for the system to provide the compensated intonation.

I suppose another replacement option if ever needed would be an LSR but AFAIK it is only available in 111/16 widths.

I'm wearing down a factory-installed Warmoth Earvana and my best option looks like partially filling the nut channel and putting a regular nut in. Another option might be to just have a bigger piece of bone cut into place.

Thanks.  I suppose I could also use the one-piece aftermarket Earvana with a normal nut slot, but I've had problems trying to install these on a Warmoth neck in the past.  By the time I file the radiused bottom to sit in the flat nut slot, it ends up being too low for a neck with 6100 frets.  I guess I'll wait and see what Warmoth says regarding the use of the LSR Earvana.  Those have a flat base and are easier to install.

Earvana shelf nuts in a regular slot is the way to go. Cheaper, Better. Faster. You can rebuild it. (Vs the Warmoth factory installed Earvana using the LSR sized slot in the wrong place that costs more money, and can only take another identical nut if you ever goober it up.
