Record deck refurb

My mate Pete gave me an old Thorens TD150 record deck which I'm going to refurbish so I can play some of those big old school black plastic CD things.  Think they are called vinyl  :dontknow:  :icon_tongue:

Part of the refurb is I'm going to build a new plinth for it, not because the existing one is broken, but just that I want to.  I needed some wood and so MattPurland and I were chatting and he told me of a supplier.

Today, 2 boards of Zebra wood arrived on my desk.  :blob7:    :cool01:
I bought a dovetail joint router jig at the weekend (which also means I can finally finish a 1 x 6inch Jensen speaker cab I've been working on)    :headbang1:
I love playing with wood.  :glasses9:  (insert comedy comments here)

Good effort Jim, I'll watch this post with interest.

A friend of mine had a Thorens (can't remember if it was a TD150) with a Shure V something cartridge and a huge pair of Tannoys.  Used a NZ made amp and phono preamp.  Sounded fabulous.  :)

Once it's all up and running, I'll be putting it through my World Audio KEL84 valve HiFi (that I made from a kit) and a pair of ex-BBC Rogers LS3/5a speakers.

Happy days

Thorens are great, but if my ancient JVC ever dies, I'm going to get a Rega Planar 3.  Nothing terribly fancy, but does it's job extremely well.

I use the Rega myself and it does do the job well.  :rock-on:

I'll need to check out your collection sometime.

My buddy Pete donated me his old Thorens, it's pretty beat up, but it'll work once I've given it the once over.

He's got 4 Linn LP12's  and he seriously knows his onions.  His system is awesome. Based around his main Linn LP12 and a load of hot rodded Naim Pre's, Power amps, and PSU's (all solid state).  Linn Kan speakers on massive slate stands he made him self out of his old pool table.

Sounds wicked.

Drooooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllllllllllll....... i love Linn's.  I have had the pleasure of listening to some seriously wicked vinyl on a system based around a beautiful Linn table through some dumpy old Magnaplanars and some power amp or other, I don't know, McIntosh, or something(wink).  I nearly smiled my face off.  Beck's Bolero never sounded so alive!

this may sound strange, but please, when you get done playing with your wood, do us all a favor and wipe it down with polish and shoot a picture of it, then post that sucker for all to see..
